Get real, we had great recruits way before he came here and we'll have them way after he's gone too........whenever that would be.
LSU can't win in this situation unless Miles immediately comes out and says that he's staying. If Michigan wants him, then they want him the day after the regular season ends to start recruiting. This would cost LSU many of our recruits in addition to having to play the SECCG and possibly the BCS game with an interim head coach . . . an almost certain losing situation. LSU would suffer badly and Miles reputation would take a huge hit. If Miles wants a national championship on his resume, then he can't take the Michigan job until January, which would kill both LSU's and Michigan's recruiting seasons. It would also be a situation like when Nick walked in the last week of December instead of at the end of the regular season--by then many of the top coaches that were looking (Spurrier and Meyer among them) had already secured new jobs. LSU entered the market late in hiring a new coach and had damn little time to put a recruiting class together. This is why O'Keefe and Skip must make whatever counter-offer they intend and demand that Miles make a decision right away. Either he stays and coaches LSU in the post-season and next year or he cleans out his office immediately and goes to Michigan. There is no in-between that benefits LSU in any way. LSU would be far better off playing the post season with an interim head coach (probably Crowton) and get a head start on hiring a new coach and saving the recruiting class. Keeping a lame duck coach would give us an uninspired team in the post-season, as in 2004, and we certainly do not want a rival coach to be in charge of our recruiting.
I ain't worried about any recruits following him to Michigan. I worry about them decommitting and attending Auburn, Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas, or State, where many of them had offers.
This is a reasonable post to me. Not sure if it would go down that way, but that may be the best way it could go down, given where we are in the NC chase.
I hope he doesn't leave. If he does he will probably leave 2 - 2.5 million per year on the table. I figure LSU will bump him into the 3.5 - 4 million per year range and Michigan won't come close to matching that price. If he does leave my top 3 replacements are: Mark Richt, Rich Rodriguez, Greg Schianno.
loyd carr makes it official i know i said i don't want to talk about this stuff, but you guys do. so here's the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3117704 we'll see what happens. *edit* sorry if already posted or if it's posted on the wrong board.
I've heard through the grape vine that Nick and Terry Saban hate living in Alabama. Matter of fact a real estate buddy of mine said that Nick was looking into his ole house in Baton Rouge!
Red makes a lot of sense. Waiting until after a bowl game coul kill our recruiting. Now the billion dollar question is, will it be handled quickly, or will it linger, putting us behind the 8 ball in a coaching search, and damaging our recruiting. FWIW,I'm sure he's gone if they offer, It's his dream job, no way he passes. It's just wheter or not they offer.
His old house is empty, but he's only been there one year and way too much water under that bridge. I know Sourdoughman is tongue in cheek, but you can bet we'll hear the Saban back crap. His sleezeball agent will put his name out there, it's what he does, and he's damn good. But I don't feel like hearing from the gumps how he could have come back and would rather be in gumpville. Much better for him to stay there, he'll make bama better, but will it be enough for their unreasonable epectations? They ain't paying him 4 mill a year not to at least duplicate what he did here, and that ain't gonna be easy.
