I think there is also a chance that the possible "sweetened deal" that LSU is supposedly going to offer Miles may help our chances at keeping CLM around for a few more years so we don't have to deal with another coaching change. However, this is CLM's opportunity to coach his alma mater. This will be a big decision for Miles.

I would rather keep what we have: 10+ wins a year, than roll the dice and hope we can bring in someone better. Just ask Nebraska- they fired Fank Solich and look what happened to them.

Below is a link from the Monroe newspaper discussing LSU trying to keep CLM.

Who will be the next Nick Saban or Les Miles?

It is always fun to throw around big names every year that we end up having a coaching vacancy, but as you, and I both know, LSU doesn't hire big named coaches. So above and beyond the Spurrier, Saban, and Rodriguez type names. Who do you feel would be the best fit, for the best money at LSU.

    Some candidates --

Jim Leavitt (USF Bulls) (Defensive Minded): Has connections with University of Mizzou, and if given an opportunity, would probably jump there from anywhere. Done well at South Florida with an overall record of 69-43 (also transitioned to I-A after three years of I-AA).

Jeff Bower (Southern Miss) (Offensive Minded): Fired by Southern miss after 15 straight winning seasons and a 7-5 record. Not the best choice, but one Skip may look at.

John Tenuta (Georgia Tech) (Defensive Coordinator): I have posted his bio before, and every school he has worked for has had top defenses. May not be ready to run the show though.

Greg Schiano (Rutgers) (Defensive Minded): He turned down jobs last year and may be content to stay in New Jersey, where expectations are low.

Dan Hawkins (Colorado) (Offensive Minded): Hawkins did great things at Boise State, but only had a fair bowl record, and may or may not have faired as well as Petersen against Oklahoma last year. Has taken a poor Colorado team and made them bowl eligible in 2 seasons. BUT his son plays for the Buffs and is only a (RS) Fresh.

Chris Petersen (Boise State) (Offensive Minded): His record speaks for itself, but rumors of a very sick child and Boise State deal to treat may keep in him Idaho.

Gary Pinkel (Mizzou) (Offensive Minded): Would he leave an up and coming Missouri team? They are contending in an up and coming division of the big 12 with Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska making signifigant attempts at coaching changes or playing better.

Mark Mangino (Kansas) (Offensive Minded): I seem to think Mangino is better as an assistant... but he could be the real deal. One season with a lot of weak teams on the schedule does not make a good enough impression on me though.

Mike Stoops (Arizona) (Defensive Minded): Has not done anything at Zona of note, except a few upsets. Yet I believe he may be able to do better elsewhere.

Butch Davis (UNC) (Defensive Minded): Don't think Skip would be willing to shell out the money it would take to get him here.

Jim Grobe (Wake Forest) (Defensive Minded): Resume is lacking but has proven he can win... but in the weak and faltering ACC.

Jimbo Fischer (Florida State) (Offensive Minded): We all know what he brings to the table, but is he ready?

Will Muschamp (Auburn) (Defensive Minded): Same as above.

Bronco Mendenhall (BYU) (Defensive Minded): Has done well in his three seasons at BYU. Was at LaTech in '97 so has some connection to LA. Is Oregon State alum, so may be looking to get that job at some point.

Mike Belotti (Oregon) (Offensive Minded): Is a West Coast guy, but losing Dixon and getting a sneak peek at next season with the injury of his Heisman QB.

Please add any others you think Skip may look at for this search...

The michigan deal was done after the Aubarn game.

When the saints played the Jags, that deal was agreed in principle, pending the Jags making the playoffs. If they do, the gambler signs and moves west.

Watch to see if the Gambler signs his 2 year extension. If not, it's probably the writing on the wall.

I'm sure we all find out Sun or Mon. Could be he is leveraging the Michigan job for some cash. I still hold out hope he stays.

I am hearing just the opposite. I think it is more likely LSU will waive the buyout to make it easier for Les to go to Michigan. Not because they don't want him anymore, but out of professional courtesy. He did have some great accomplishments and this would be sort of a parting thank you and to make it easier for him to get his dream job.

Miles is gone. Its his dream job, always been his dream job and unless something extrodinary happens he is taking it. No amount of sweetening is going to convince him to stay over the school he went to and obviously the school he loves.

I would also be careful in anyone assuming we are on "cruise control". You can go from Bear to whimpering lap mutt overnight just like Nebraska did or we could easily revert back to what we were before Saban arrived. Make no mistake, this hire is crucial. Its hard enough to get to the top but its even harder to stay there.

"I DONT KNOW WHY ANYONE IS WORRIED PLEASE LET CLM LEAVE TRUST ME IT WILL BE BETTER FOR US IN THE END YOU WILL SEE"

Let's just sit back and make a sound decision on our next coach. I do think we need a marquee name some1 that our recruits are familiar with and has the mystique to make the players want to stay.

Again let's make a sound decision cuz i dont think one was made when we hired CLM.

Another thing CLM will not be beating ohio st anytime soon he isnt half the coach trussle is.

Which is EXACTLY why some sensible people would love to see Miles stay right where he is.:thumb: I agree with you that he's likely gone, but don't understand why some...not you...but some...don't understand why we'd want Miles to stay. I was saying the same thing about Nebraska right after the game Friday when all the termites started swarming wanting Miles to go to UM as fast as possible.:rolleye33:

Maybe it is because I like the prostitute I'm used too because I know she is good and clean and a new one might give me herpes.
