One way i've heard it explained is to take water for an example. Water comes in three forms, liquid water, ice, and steam. All 3 are water yet all 3 are distinct or it's like an egg. You have a yolk, egg white, and the shell all 3 are distinct parts of the egg yet they are all egg. It may not be the best explaination but it's a way to look at it.
No, he's saying it isn't broke so don't fix it. Stop trying to make it something it isn't. It's Christmas.
when you are telling the merchants to call christmas christmas more than they currently do, YOU are the one advocating change. YOU are the one telling the merchants to stop saying "seasons greetings". who are you to tell merchants what to call the holidays?
When those same merchants are instructed to stop saying Christmas and to make a sign saying "holiday trees for sale", then they are the ones making changes. If things had stayed the same no one would be up in arms.
private business can't be instructed as to what to call anything. they can call anything whatever they want. you are fighting a foe that isnt there. if i speak in front of a crowd of mixed religious heritage and i wish them a happy holidays so as to cover everyone's well-wishing needs as easily as possible, do you scream back that it is christmas, not the holidays, as if i dont know what the holidays are? all businesses want is for people to not be offended and buy their products. people like you make it difficult by caring about nonsense.
who are you to tell merchants what to call the holidays?[/QUOTE] I am one of the ones they are asking to shop here in order to help them make their livelyhood.
nobody is forcing you to shop at these evil stores who dont honor your holidays to the extent you require.
Why change if the overwhelming majority of customers didn't have a problem with things the way they were? Why change when the overwhelming majority have a problem with what they were changed too?
i guess they have marketing departments that say otherwise. besides, unless you actually stop shopping because this hurts your feelings, merchants will not need to change. maybe you should complain to merchants that when you bought a present for your sweety, you were not sure what holiday it was for. or if you really need the word christmas displayed in the place where you buy items, maybe you can organize a boycott and threaten local merchants. perhaps you could have a rule where the word christmas must be used at least once every few minutes or displayed on signs every 10 yards or so. i can imagine how that must make you feel, dealing with generic "holiday" wishes. you deserve better.
the same thing happens to me at cinco de mayo. i get sad when nobody respects it. particularly when i live in area that is packed with latinos. corona beer ads seem to get the idea, but lots of other products have generic "summer fun" marketing strategies. i have shed many a tear over it.
