I never said that's why he left. I never said that's why he left. I just thought that the comment was an unnecessary parting shot.
What he said was that he has always gone to programs with challenges that were not winning at the time. As an example, he hinted that LSU was in this category and that the games were even characterized with booing. This is not a direct quote. I think he was answering a question, which I couldn't hear. For all I know, the question was about taking over a decimated Miami team and how we would handle the challenge. That said, it was an awkward moment that he could have avoided with the LSU booing comments.
Since some people did not see the comments I posted in another thread on this topic... not like we can actually read ALL of the threads right now anyways heh..... Here they are: ".......... That is the commitment that we will have to try to improve the quality of peaople, players, and every part of the organization so that we work together as a team.. and I think being a team is very very important in a situation like this.... uhh.. our fans at LSU, when I first went there boo'd and I very simply said you know, we say that our place in Tiger Stadium is the most difficultplace to play in college football but do you realize guys when you boo our team, that you're helping our opponents? and it's all of a sudden not become one of the most difficult palces to play.. so the fans are a part of that team as well in how they support the team, the positive attitude that they have. I think everybody wants to be successful and everybody's gotta be committed to their role that's gonna help us be successful, in every aspect of the organization. uh with the players, with the people who support the team............"
thanks for posting that LSUgrad. I think alot of people here are taking what Nick said out of context. he was saying the FANS play an important part of the team's attitude. if you've EVEr played football, you know this. Nick Saban was pointing out that during his tenure at LSU, he tried to emphasize this. It's really not all that hard to understand, surely everyone here saw Marcus Spears try to incite enthusiasm from the crowd for the team by raising his hands, urging the crowd to yell. these guys feed off that stuff. You can't fault Saban for saying that.
JSRacing is right.......The fans booing thing was taken out of context, and wasn't meant to be a shot at LSU.......
The context is not the point. It's not that anyone thinks booing is the reason that he left, or that he said it as a parting shot against LSU. The point is that if he cared about LSU at all, he should have made sure his press conference anouncing he was leaving LSU did not have included anything that could possibly tarnish what he has done here. The point is that after 5 years at our school, in his farwell pc, pretty much his only remark about our fans was that they booed. He does still have a bowl game to coach; if I were in that position I would try to convince fans to come to the game, I would definitely not say that could posibly offend them.
