That's odd, since they just extended Simm's contract and upped his pay to "Starter Money." I doubt that TB would take a QB in the 1st round.
When I say "showing interest", I just heard him say in an interview that Russell impressed him. That was about 10 days ago. I have NO inside info on anything "Bucs".:thumb:
gruden has been interested in jr for quite some time and has made it known publically. Simms is fragile and being a quasi-bucs fan, his signing made no sense. however, teams realize they need 2 starters nowadays. Phili is a great example of that. A 2 time pro bowl guy in garcia is a perfect backup. same goes for rb's. the two back system is more popular than ever. Im sure gruden would nab JR if he gets the chance. He and caddi in the backfield for a few years would be sweet. if caddi could ever stay healthy. Or clayton for that matter. Seeing Russell in a gruden west-coast would be sweet if gruden ever learns to coach again.
That's cool. I am not a Bucs insider either. I just happened to hear the contract info on ESPN Radio. I think that was within the last week, so the timeline could be OK. Just trying to make the conversation interesting.:yelwink2:
JR should go pro now, when his stock has peaked and it can only go down after his game in the Sugar Bowl. BR has been doing it all by himself for the past two years, and JR has stringed along some good games. I wouldn't say that JR is better than BQ on the basis of one game. BQ was facing a strong defense, rated #2 in the nation while JR had all day against a ND defense that every ND fan acknoweldges as the achilles heel of the ND football team. If BQ had been facing the ND defense, he would have thrown for over 400 yards and 3 TDs. If JR had been facing a much tougher defense, I think he would have struggled. After all, when LSU has faced great defenses this year, JR hasn't been especially effective. Let's not forget that when LSU faced two top ten teams this year, it lost both of them.
maybe you should watch the game again and see how Brady Quinn had ALL DAY to throw. Very seldom rushed or hurried yet still below 50% completion. Hell I think it was 42%. thats pathetic no matter how you slice it. Eli isnt even that bad. oh and dont forget our sr safety was suspended the first half as well. We had one of those white dudes like you back there.
I believe BitterND is actually right on this one (can't believe I just said that). Both QB's are talented. While I won't get into who played tougher defenses througout the year, there is no debating who faced the tougher defense in the sugar bowl. Yes, BQ had all night to throw, but ND's receivers could never get separation, which was the problem in the USC game. That's what happens when you keep your tight ends in for max protection, and your best receivers are not good enough to out play the secondary. Just take it as a credit to LSU's defense. Brady Quinn and Jamarcus Russel will both be drafted early, and I think both will do well in the NFL. Is Brady Quinn as good as he was hyped? Probably not, but I'm no scout so what I think doesn't count anyway. I do believe he is much better than he's given credit for here. He has the stats to back it up. Yes it was against weaker competition, but it was also with a much weaker supporting cast than Russel, Booty, and just about all of the other QB's out there. That's what makes it so hard to compare one against the other. I jsut wish they both would go later b/c I'd hate to see either one end up at Oakland or Detroit.
