Seriously... should be an interesting finish though.

Same. Speeches under a McCain administration will definitely be more sleep inducing. Not that that's bad.

I don't know. I expect McCain to ram his share of partisan crap through. Maybe I'm wrong. I predict Obama would be the more bipartisan of the pair.

    Glad to hear it.

Context please. I fell asleep because I was worn out from hard work, not because McCain was boring.

You cannot be serious! With Pelosi and Reid pulling his strings...?

    Thanks.

Well, it was a long day for me as well and I would have liked to have heard the whole speech; still, I found it a little dry. I did like how McCain called out Democrats AND Republicans and I thought he was right on that.

I ask myself that all the time when I read your posts. However, I am serious. I believe Obama to be his own man.

McCains speech was decent. Its one of the better ones I've seen him deliver. He is not the dynamic speaker most politicians are and his disabilities play some part in that. His awkward movement and inability to raise his arms over his head is difficult to watch but many people don't know its because of his extensive injuries suffered in Vietnam. The man was broken in many pieces and just cant move like normal people.

I watched both Obama's and McCains speeches on CNN because its in HD. I also listened to the talking heads on CNN after both speeches and flipped back and forth to Fox for the different perspectives. Its amazing how slanted CNN has become.

When describing Obama's speech they used terms like "speech of the century", "knock out blow to McCain", "the most amazing call to rally ever". It was really pathetic how they attempted to prop up Obama as much as possible. Fox commentators were also complimentary of Obama's speech even some of the known conservatives had good things to say about it. The one thing Fox did that CNN didnt do was put up guests and interviewee's from both parties in most of their follow up segments after the speech. I only saw one republican on CNN after Obama's speech

When CNN was discussing the aftermath of McCains speech they were very negative. I only saw a couple of republicans on any of their follow up segments. Instead they had a long line of democrats to shoot holes in McCains speech as much as possible. In the FOX coverage, just like after Obama's speech, they had both parties represented in almost every segment. In addition, CNN continually showed the demonstrators in the crowd that were holding derogatory signs. When I flipped over to FOX they were not showing the same footage. That was very lame in my opinion.

Both these stations have their share of extremes. Fox obviously has the far right, CNN the far left. However, when it comes to just the coverage of these speeches FOX was WAY, WAY more equal in putting on the perspective from both sides and it wasnt even close.

I appreciate his service and don't doubt that many in the armed services are doing all they can to do what's best for Iraq. But his argument misses Obama's point and the point of many who believe the Iraq war was a mistake.

I watched both after Palin's speech and after Obama's speech. I fell asleep last night. I thought CNN was the fairer of the two in total. FOX almost immediately started ripping holes in Obama's speech and CNN waited a few minutes to start ripping holes in Palin's speech. I didn't see FOX giving both sides of the argument after Obama's speech. Both are slanted.

I'm an Obama lean and you're probably a McCain lean or a staunch republican, which may explain the differences in our perception of the coverage.

I'll have to disagree completely. I watched both broadcasts with an open mind. It wasnt even close, I mean not close at all.

I am not a staunch republican, not even a McCain lean. I've never really liked McCain but I think Obama is all bluster with no experience. My wife hates McCain and was a Hillary supporter but will not vote for Obama. I cant see myself voting for Obama even though I dont like McCain.

very good speech by mccain. my only problem with it is that it lacked details of what he would do to help the economy. he mentions many fewer things he'd do than obama, and i think he was even more vague.

"I will keep taxes low and cut them where I can. My opponent will raise them. I will open new markets to our goods and services. My opponent will close them. I will cut government spending. He will increase it.

My tax cuts will create jobs. His tax increases will eliminate them. My health care plan will make it easier for more Americans to find and keep good health care insurance. His plan will force small businesses to cut jobs, reduce wages, and force families into a government run health care system where a bureaucrat stands between you and your doctor.

Keeping taxes low helps small businesses grow and create new jobs. Cutting the second highest business tax rate in the world will help American companies compete and keep jobs from moving overseas. Doubling the child tax exemption from $3500 to $7000 will improve the lives of millions of American families. Reducing government spending and getting rid of failed programs will let you keep more of your own money to save, spend and invest as you see fit. Opening new markets and preparing workers to compete in the world economy is essential to our future prosperity.

We will prepare them for the jobs of today. We will use our community colleges to help train people for new opportunities in their communities. For workers in industries that have been hard hit, we'll help make up part of the difference in wages between their old job and a temporary, lower paid one while they receive retraining that will help them find secure new employment at a decent wage. "

i just love the fact that he ripped the GOP. when he said

"We need to change the way government does almost everything: ...from the way we respond to disasters...[thats gotta hurt, W]

The constant partisan rancor that stops us from solving these problems isn't a cause, it's a symptom. It's what happens when people go to Washington to work for themselves and not you.

Instead of rejecting good ideas because we didn't think of them first, let's use the best ideas from both sides. Instead of fighting over who gets the credit, let's try sharing it. This amazing country can do anything we put our minds to. I will ask Democrats and Independents to serve with me. And my administration will set a new standard for transparency and accountability. "

there probably wasnt a more quiet time in the arena.

Well then we just disagree because that is not what I saw. It does sound like you are anti-Obama, BTW.
