    Yes but these people generally do not qualify for welfare unless they are disabled. There will always be a small percentage of people who do not work because they are too crazy, too lazy, or just prefer to be a bum. But most of the people under the poverty line in this country are working in low-paying jobs, some of them working very hard--just watch your garbage man or your lawn man.

    There was a time in this country where a fellow with a high school degree or even a 8th grade education could get a good-paying job with benefits in manufacturing, but those jobs have been outsourced overseas by Corporate America. It has left those people working in service jobs without retirement plans or health insurance. They mave have once been "stepping stone" jobs for young people, but these days are often occupied by permanent workers left out of factories and mills that were closed.
