In 1996, I couldn't bring myself to vote for either Dole or Clinton, and I exercised my right as an American NOT to vote. As a Louisianian, I exercised my right NOT to vote when we were to choose between Edwards and Duke for governor.

This is another year where I'm not sure I can hold my nose and vote. I've never liked McCain (still don't) and while Obama is a great politician and "sounds Presidential," I don't trust him, especially after choosing Biden as his running mate.

Now, we have McCain choosing Palin and while I'm trying not to mind her pregnant teenager, it does trouble me. Wasn't the public crucifying Lynn Spears for Jamie Lynn's getting pregnant? I don't quite know how I feel about this, though I realize that teen pregnancy happens quite often.

Guys, I just don't know. The only thing I DO know is that I can't believe that our great country doesn't have any two better choices for President than what we have running.

I hope those words don't come back to haunt you. As I've related before, my oldest son got caught up in the crack world and it nearly killed him. He was raised in a loving home, went to private school and was regularly taught that drugs are bad,etc..My wife and I agonized wondering what we did wrong. When John came out of his hellhole, he told us that there's not a damn thing we could have done. Teenagers can get mighty stubborn and whatseems like the perfect child at age 12 can turn on you in a New York second. Don't judge. There but for the grace of God...

Not sure what you are referring to but I'm being specific to child rearing situations. I'm not non-judgemental in all areas and don't claim to be.

But thats kinda broad, dont you think. Every person addicted to drugs was someones child at once and I think the majority raised their kids not to do drugs as you did. Also, if you going to quote a bible verse , you think its ok to apply it just to what you would like to apply it to?

I hope your son is doing great right now and is even a stronger person than before.:thumb:

thats great advice for personal relationships, but i dont adhere to it for deciding who to vote for. it is such an important position that it is your duty as a conscientious voter to judge. it doesnt have to be proven in court that palin is somehow less fit for the office because of her unwed pregnant daughter. same goes for mccain and his flings, bill and his puffed joint and obama and his uncle rev wright.

Hold on to your hossies there fellas. I should have addressed this in a PM. I was speaking strictly to Stacey inasmuch as she has 2 young daughters and was unsure how she felt about Palin's teenage daughter getting pregnant.

SabanFan, I thought the same sort of thing as I typed it. If one of my daughters became pregnant as a teenager, would I have been a lousy mother, and by extension, lousy in my career (as is being insinuated with Palin)? I don't think so, and I would hope to be supportive of my child and my future grandchild.

That's why I wrote that I don't know, exactly, how I feel about it, but I REALLY feel that's it's being overblown in the media. I wish that the politician's family's lives could be kept private--naive, I know. I didn't think the John Edwards affair was fair fodder, either.

I was voting for Bob Barr until McCain announced who his vp candidate was.
I've heard from some that the vp doesn't really matter but I would now disagree.

I respect and honor McCain for his service and love of country but I don't like some of his politics, McCain Feingold for instance.
I think Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air, I like what I hear about her taking on the establishment and talking about reform.
I also like her experience as mayor, governor and an energy specialist.

    My thoughts about her daughter....
If every parent or child was ever judged because of what that child or parent did we would all be looked at in a different light.
Think about it, most fail in their lifetimes or fall short from time to time.
Every individual has a mind of their own, just because some grow up in a good or bad environment doesn't mean they will turn out that way.
Anyone in the media or this forum or anywhere else who is taking advantage of this is being devisive and mean spirited.
