Jindal is an idiot not looking after his state but after himself. And aligning with double talk McCain is a stupid move.

I agree but not necessarily for the same reasons.

Jindal went talk to McCain because he was invited. He has no intention of accepting the VP spot. But this was an excellent opportunity to network and make some important contacts with some pretty influential party members who might be of some benefit to him in the future. He would have been a fool to turn the opportunity down.

McCain needs to be looking for two things in his VP: presidential character and an ability to attract independents and moderates.

I would think the timing is perfect for a female candidate with conservative cred, but not uber-rightwing.

Bush could have picked Liddy Dole but he went with Cheney. That's been real solid. :rolleye33:

Dole is smart, poised, capable, Southern. She is infinitely more likeable than HRC.

Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska would be terrific. While she would not draw "regional" votes as such, but would attract moderates and independents as well as women. Because she was elected governor in 2006, I am not certain if she would accept the VP slot, but her name has been mentioned. A few days ago she also gave birth to a child with Down Syndrome, so I suspect she wants to remain in Alaska for now and care for her family.

Libby Dole would have made a better candidate for president than her husband. But I think she is too old now for the VP slot. I think she is in her 70's but am not sure about that.

She will be 62 later this year. Cheney is younger by 5 years but he has a bum ticker. Obama is a chain smoker and McCain is seriously older with a history of skin cancer. I see no reason why Dole wouldn't be worth consideration.

I would think that appealing to moderate women would be a key strategy for the GOP, and Dole's age might actually be a good thing considering which demographic was supporting Clinton. If O'Bama is effectively "spun" as a far-left, wimpy Liberal, then McCain may be able to make some headway into this demographic.

The only negative I can see is McCain's health. If he's "spun" with any effectiveness to be at risk at all, then going for a younger candidate may be more advantageous.
