Go back and look at the scores against these small schools a few years ago. We should be winning these games far more convincingly. However, like I said, a win is a win.
Instead of wasting your time attacking each other, lets talk about the win today okay? Anyways, it's huge that we have Mayer back in the lineup since we don't have Bogany, but it seems that Olvey has entrenched himself as the Saturday starter and is doing a good job so far. I saw that Lara was playing catcher, is this another platoon situation like Smoke tried with Liuzza and Weaver or just a pre-SEC configuration.
bs. We will have some close games against lesser teams and we will have some blow outs, thats how it always goes.
Fact, not opinion. Baseball is a different animal. Margin of victory means nothing. A hot pitcher on a Div III team can give a Div I power fits on a given night. No team goes undefeated in baseball. No team dominates every opponent every time out. Also, early season games are more practice and experimentation than anything. Don't get caught up in Ws and Ls. Watch for performance and development. When the SEC cranks up, hope for 2 out of 3 in weekend series. It's all about getting ready for the dance. Rankings, records, etc are for the fans. The coaches are just looking to get better and to have the best 9 on the field when it counts.
I tend to disagree. The more wins in the Pre SEC season shows 2 things: 1) It shows we can win with a bunch of differnt guys 2) Smoke will settle a line-up sooner. The better we do in the pre-season the better we will do in the SEC. Once we get into the SEC the non-conference games lose importance, but at this stage I think they tell us alot about the team.
From a fan's perspective yes. From a coach's perspective the pre SEC record is all fluff and no substance. LSU will finish in the upper echelon of the SEC. LSU will host a regional. How they play once they get there is what determines how far they'll go.
thanks for covering for me til i got back. stupid to think if we lose 4 or 5 pre SEC means we're doomed. even worse to think we should be winning by larger margins. thats faulty baseball logic. now if we were winning 21-17 each game then you'd have a worry based on pitching. cold weather out there each weekend...actually felt colder saturday. the fact will hit 2 out in that mess amazed us. good sign. he and especially liuzza look ready to contribute this year.
