You would then be ignoring the fact that NIL is being misused as a way for schools to bid for top players by proxy before they even sign a commitment letter and then bail thru portal for more offers. Even the NFL doesnt allow that which is why the draft exists. The latter I can see coming into existence if top schools continue to push the limit or even an NIL cap.
How is it wrong? Let me ask you, if you could make money off of your own image and likeness, don't you have the right to do that? You may not like the new rule because of the impact it has on college athletics, but there is no way you can argue that it's wrong for somebody to be able to profit off their own image and likeness. What's wrong is some other entity profiting from it and you being unable to....
247 now predicting that MJ and his brother are headed to TAMU. That might be one of the worst moves ever. He may never start a game.
The reason a Max Johnson or Eli Ricks has any value to his NIL is because of his ability to play football. And they are already getting paid for that by way of scholarships, free board, etc. You may argue that a scholarship is pointless to someone who is only in school to play football and prepare for the NFL, and it is a valid point, but it doesn't change the fact that all of the stuff the average student has to pay for that the athlete doesn't has a monetary value. So, how about this? Might the next step be, "OK, Jacoby Matthews, we can get you $100,000 a year to come to LSU, but you have to pay your own tuition, dorm, etc?"
