<newsflash> The saints had the highest payroll in the NFL last year. </newsflash> What more do you want Benson to do? Get out on the field and play? And the Aaron Brooks bashing is foolishness. If you actually watched him play instead of just reading the newspapers you would know this. He is one of the better qb's in the NFL. He's not top 5 and maybe not top 10, but he is top 15. Don't you guys get tired of holding onto the anger towards the saints? I know I'd rather be dissappointed every year, than being spiteful. The thing is when the saints finally do win it all it's going to be amazing for the fans that stuck with them, and only make the rest of you even more angry. Anyways, Mauck has to clear waivers, then he can sign with whoever. Chances are no one signs him, and he sits for a couple weeks, or joins the broncos practice squad until the broncos heal up and can get him back on the roster. All teams in the NFL are suffering injuries, and are having to cut their young potential guys. Denver will probably put him on the practice squad when he clears. Such is the life of a low round draft pick.
Yes but Matt doesn't fit Jerry's requirements of accomplishing nothing in college or being a washed up baseball player.
1. I would love to see the link on that payroll claim. 2. Even if Brooks is 'in the top 15' as you say, that just makes him average when there are only 32 NFL teams. 3. Benson is THE reason that the Saints cannot consistently win!
Okay, I like the Saints. I admit it. However, that being said... Benson has a stranglehold on the Saints and is killing the franchise even more (if that's at all possible). He refuses to keep the best players and coaching staff around. If anyone gets the least bit of power within the organization BOOM they're gone. They just make poor choices all around.
No...actually, I'd like to see him quit screwing around and spend some green to hire a GM that can actually evaluate personnel. He's done that all of twice in the 20 years he's owned the Saints...unfortunately, the first man he hired (a true genius at evaluating talent) up and died. The second one got us a playoff win, and then was inexplicably fired. You're looking at numbers...I'm looking at leadership ability. But let's play it your way for a minute. You (and Haslett for that matter) will likely tell me that Aaron only threw 8 ints last year...best in the NFL. Very true. I will then turn around and tell you that he also lost 11 fumbles last year...worst in the NFL. Any way you look at it, Aaron turns the ball over more than once a game...not good. I've said from Day One that Aaron Brooks reminds me of a young Randall Cunningham...world-class talent and athleticism, but never won sh*t. I still stand by that assessment. Nobody is necessarily angry at the Saints...in fact, it's probably because some of us care too much that we get so frustrated with them. I'll stick by them if they finish 1-15 this year...but that doesn't mean I have to keep my mouth shut or don't have the right to be critical if I don't like something. And if they ever do go on to win something, I'll be there to enjoy it, too.
After a search this is what i found: http://bengals.enquirer.com/2004/05/27/bengals27notes.html "New Orleans was first at $95.1 million, followed by Tampa Bay ($88.1 million) and Minnesota ($85.7 million)." I think that at worst Brooks is average. At best he's in the top 10, maybe as high as 7 or 8. The truth is he isn't consistent, and he does make big mistakes, but when he's on he's pretty damn good. The other problem Brooks has is the saints receivers drop a lot of balls, and the offensive line is also very inconsistent. And even if Aaron Brooks is only average, it's much better than Billy Joe */Danny Weurffel.
Brett Favre had 21 ints and lost 2 fumbles. That is 23 turnovers compared to Brooks' 19. Daunte Culpepper had 11 pics and lost 6 fumbles. Anyway, if you look at the top qb's ints + fumbles it usually comes out to ~15. So, yes Brooks is above that number. Honestly his fumbles drive me insane, but he is still one of the better qb's regardless.
I agree with Jeff about Brooks - I'd take him over at least 50% of the starters in the NFL, probably more. It's tough to QB in the NFL and there are a lot of QBs who shouldn't be on NFL rosters but since expansion and the 3 QB system, it allows a lot of mediocre QBs to make NFL teams. Tony Romo, Clint Stoener, Jesse Palmer. I mean, c'mon. btw- the player that has had the worse two games of the season is that Auburn bum RT Victor Riley. the guy has either been a turnstile or a pancake. if it weren't for him, the Saints would have had a chance to beat Seattle.
Brooks isn't a pimple on either Brett Farve or Daunte Culpepper's a$$. While those two find a way to win Brooks always finds a way to lose. How many playoff wins do those two have compared to how many for Brooks? While he may have all the physical skills one would want in an NFL QB he has none of the leadership ability nor the ability to raise his teams level of play. The $aini$ gave away the best QB they had before last season and kept the one that will lead them no where. I always have been and always will be a Saints fan,and they say the Red Sox are cursed, but that doesn't mean I have to like watching them be the laughing stock of the NFL. It's great the Saints are able to waste more money than any other team in the NFL and Ben$on still makes out like a bandit, good for him. However there is no salary cap on hiring qualified football operations people that know how to build an NFL franchise. I know you are not going to tell me that the Saints have one of the best front offices in the NFL are you? Why are other organizations able to hire competent people but Ben$on is not? The Saints are losers because of Tom Ben$on and will be as long as he owns the Saints. The people of this state after 38 years of suffering the worst franchise in the history of professional sports deserve better but the suffering will continue as Ben$on boogies all the way to the bank. :bncry: :bncry: :bncry: :bncry: :bncry:
