I dont understand this disdain for Matt Flynn.. No he wasnt pretty last year, but he also was hurt last spring and sick during camp, so he didnt get to learn the offense like JR did.

I have nothing against Flynn. If he wins the job then I'll be 100% behind him. It's just that no one can argue that RP's potential far exceeds that of Flynn and Russell. Unless if one of these two absolutely tears up the world this season, there's no doubt that RP's going to start next season. I think it's insane if he doesn't. You just can't keep a player that talented on the bench that long.

Well?! Russell has unbelievable upside too man...

    6'5 252... need I say more?

he fits the bill of the NFL guy more than RP does...

I think we have a lot of bias b/c we both saw RP up close and personal for 4 years..

I do think he will be better than we all can imagine, but Russell isn't too shabby either...

BTW... what a great problem we have:

Other schools are worried about prohibation, and players being suspended etc... and we talk about which of our 3 REALLY good QBs will play next year?

A guy can have all the talent in the world, but if he doesn't understand and grasp the playbook then I don't think he should be on the field. If MF and JR couldn't fully grasp the playbook to beat out a 5th year senior who was only average at QB, I do not expect RP to do the same. He might have an awesome arm, he might run a 4.4, but if he can't run an offense effectively then he shouldn't be on the field. He hasn't had the chance to even really learn the O yet or even compete for the job, so all this talk is premature.

Back to the topic at hand. I hope JR is the starter because I watched the guy since I was in the 8th grade tear up teams, including my own. If MF earns the job, which he might, then I will be behind him, but nothing in the spring scrimmage showed me he deserves the job more than JR. Hopefully JR can put last years demon's to rest and tear it up.

ppl who say he don't know the playbook are totally out of whack...

he is SOOOO familiar with Jimbo-ball...

It wasn't understanding the system last year that made JaMarcus struggle... it was little things like settign the feet, etc...

    THAT is why he struggled...
