You can't always go off of practice. Some people dont practice like they play.......Flynn could just be the gamer where hes calm and cool under pressure and makes great reads and at a faster pace.

I do believe however that JR should be the starter. Just because I believe he hasnt done anything to be benched. Only if JR gets injured or has a complete meltdown, MF shouldnt see the field until its mop-up time. Next season, different story........I just hate the idea of having great QBs sitting on the bench.

You just described JaMarcus Russell, not Flynn. Russell has come into very tough situations and played amazing. Flynn went into a tough situation (Iowa) and played below par, then came into an especially easy situation & looked good... You tell me which one looks better.

I love the idea of having great QBs on the bench - that means our starter is that much better, and on top of that, we have depth behind him.

Yeah, I do too, but at the same time, makes me wish we could have had one of them when we didnt have a decent QB.....

    1) are you seriously going to judge flynn on his FIRST 10 snaps he ever took?
    2) russel played amazing in tough situations huh? like the last drive that lsu had the lead vs UT, when he threw the HORRIBLE pick?or when he got tackled inside the ten before the half instead of going out of bounds or throwing the ball away. or how bout last year vs florida when he tried to give them the game in the first half? Or maybe you mean the INT he threw last year on the final drive vs aubrun. WAIT NO MAYBE YOU'RE TALKIN BOUT ALL HIS TURNOVERS THIS YEAR? Im not saying flynn's better, just saying why not give the kid a chance... im sure he can make the plays russel has and hey, maybe he wont make the silly mistakes that have cost us in crucial parts of the game. russel hasnt exactly willed our team to victory...
    3) I think having great qb's on the bench makes it harder for a starter, always looking over his shoulder and worrying about playing poorly rather than doing what's natural and going through the offense. Obviously having 3 studs at the qb position isnt the worst problem to have, but just another perspective.

not trying to influince a qb change, but a lot of people on the board dont see any reason for flynn to have a competitive shot at the position. all russel has done is play well but make horrible

None of us influence the qb change lol. And Matt Flynn did have a competitive shot at the position, all of last year, this fall, and this spring. He lost out. He lost out when Saban was the coach, and he lost out with Miles as the coach.

Coming from a guy who predicted Flynn would win the starting job by the end of last year, and win it this year, let me tell you JR is the best QB we have. Flynn, should he get a chance to play, will play spectacular and our O will be good with him. That doesn't change the fact that JR is also great and our O is good with him as well. JR gives us all the throws Flynn can make, plus ones he cannot.

Last year JR was not good. He called his own plays, threw the ball to the wrong guy, and had his confidence damaged by the constant yanking at even the times he did the right thing, but was unsuccessful. This year, the coaches have demonstrated they are sticking with him, which is important...any qb or coach will tell you this. Beyond all of this, the entire team feels JR is their leader. You simply cannot pull a QB who is 6-1 and the unquestioned leader of the team - that is a recipe for mutiny.

He's proven to be a gamer and a guy who thrives in adverse situations when the pressure is on. Again, Flynn is a great QB, and if put in a position to start (and in the same adversity), he will play great and win the ball game for us...but as of now, he is the backup - JR earned it. Unless JR has a melt down or an injury, Flynn is the backup - at least until next year.

Not many on this board realize much at all about Matt Flynn. Yes, he is fast. In fact, his 40 yd times are better than Perilloux's.

Yes, he knows the offense...and better than Russell. It was obvious Saturday night. He threw on time instead of doing a Brooksie - throwing late and relying on superior arm strength to cover for his not knowing when the receivers would break open.

I just don't get it. Why are so many people reacting so negatively to a guy who has put in his time, worked hard, kept his mouth shut and displayed the kind of class we all want to see from the Tigers?

I don't know about the rest of you, but it seems to me the games are played to win and you do what you can to win, within the rules of the game and standards you set for yourself. If Flynn gives the Tigers a better shot at winning, and it looks from here like he just might, then the coaches ought to give him a shot.

I, and others, have pointed out some problems Russell seems to have on the field. Those observations were made honestly and without rancor, based on observation of his game performance. He's made some progress since the beginning of the season, but this is his third year with the system and he ought to be doing a lot better than he's shown so far. Based on history, I am not optimistic about JR becoming the kind of quarterback a lot of folks on this board seem to believe he already is. Those are just the facts, and facts being what they are, they sometimes contradict what we want to believe.

I honestly don't know if Matt Flynn is a world beater. But, I don't think the coaches or anyone on this board knows either. There's only one way to find out.

    GIVE HIM THE BALL!

Once again, just as Philter said; The time to become the first string QB is during practice sessions and Spring..... I'm pulling for Flynn all the way, just as I am JR but Flynn had his chance to win the job and didn't do it. How will he do against a decent defense, not a beaten down JV team? I hope we don't find out....If JR goes down be glad we have a good backup.

Dude, nobody is reacting negatively to Flynn. His performance the other night was outstanding in mop-up duty. Any perceived negativity is towards those fans who now think Flynn has earned more playing time, or should even start.

Russell won the job outright before the season and it's his job now. Russell has done nothing wrong to lose playing time. We all know that a 2 QB system sucks and for anyone to suggest otherwise is simply lying to themselves.

It is great to know we have a capable backup in Flynn should Russell go down with an injury.

Joe Montana came off the bench several games his Sophmore year to lead Notre Dame to victories. He didn't get the start till the 3rd game of his Junior Season, where he led ND to a National Championship.

Is Flynn a new Joe Cool? I don't know, but, he hasn't showed me that he's not.
I'd love to see him in the heat of battle in a big game. Only then can we know.

I think JR's a good QB with a great arm. But, it's possible there's a great QB on the bench.

I don't give a crap if one QB can throw a ball 75 yds and the other only 60 yds. Give me the great decision maker with a capable arm.LSU! :crystal: LSU! :geauxtige :eek:ldskule: :tigerhead

You are totally wrong about that, damn near everyone on this board knew that and every other little tidbit about Flynn just about. If I were to give the members of this board any props the main one would be that they know their LSU football players.
