USCw arguably has the most talented team in college football and lost just as many games as CLM's Tigers....including a Stanford loss at home. With your logic...CLM is on par with Pete Carroll who is arguably the best coach in college football today. Good enough for me.
you cant compare taking on JT's OSU team with Okie State vs taking them on with LSU .... thats apples and oranges bro.
Re: Mark May SabanFan, Miles record is good at LSU, I won't deny that. As far as every coach at OSU doing well---not sure about that..Case in point John Cooper. While his overall record was very good at OSU (can't remember total W's and L's) he was ultimately fired for not "winning the big one." His record was 2-10-1 against Michigan, and never reached a NC game-- a few of those years with losses to UM that left OSU at 10-1 or 11-1. In those games, OSU was superior to Michigan athletically/talent. Cooper's legacy at OSU was that he was a great recruiter, but a bad game day coach, especially in games that were meaningful...that's why Tressel has been revered by Buckeye fans, he has been able beat Michigan consistently, get us to NC/BCS games and win a few...
Sure I can.............tosu and osu were just about dead evenly matched for that game....JT just out coached him,,,Bro LSU does not have superior talent over OSU, the are pretty evenly matched on both side of the ball, it will come down to coaching decisions and game plan executions, with coaching adjustments during the game.
BayouBengal, I'm not sold on Petey's ability as a coach, x and o wise. He's a great recruiter and motivator, certainly. Carroll has a distinct advantage in recruiting geography alone that the SEC, and other conferences in general don't have. While Carroll competes on national recruiting with in all parts of the country (ref Joe McKnight) he has a monopoly on the best talent west of the Rockies, since USC is the only marquis program. Yes W's and L's are the only things that matter...the only time recently where Carroll had to coach (X and O wise against comparable talent) was the 2005 NC game against Texas and he made some bad moves down the stretch that cost USC the game.... That's been the point to my posting above earlier (ref Miles and Tressel--who is the better coach)--putting great talent on the field is a big part of the equation, BUT in close games (where talent is similar) coaching moves are often subtle and don't necessarily have to be manifested in slick fake fg's or grab your sack 4th and 2 calls. IF OSU is in the game against LSU, watch Tressel's play calling--it will be well thought out and even "questionably" conservative at times...almost like watching a manager in baseball in the late innings with a good bull pen--I just hope OSU can stay in the game long enough for Tressel to be able to work his magic!!!
IMO he is trying to suggest that based on when teams are equal strengths playing against JT, 90% of the time his coaching methods seem to work out as a plus. best example osu vs miami, worst example osu vs florida but between those 2 examples he left no doubt about his coaching ability and adjustments during the game. That is the #1 reason why so many fans were taken back at a complete loss of understanding in the fla game..none of the usual adjustments were even tried. They also saw the same thing in the Ill loss at home this year, there were no adjustments made of course the buckeye's only had 1 series 3 & out never got the ball back in the 4th qtr, they had the ball on offense for 1.min15sec. Just proves a point on any given day ANY team can win.....no matter what. This just shapes up to be a great game with 2 great football teams & Coaches.
Re: Mark May a snapshot of the advantage OSU has playing in the Big 2, er, Big 10. Put OSU in the SEC and that overall record may have a few more losses than wins. more evidence of my supposition seems to be the formula....play a weak conference schedule, load up on weak in-state competition, play 1 ooc "name" school that may or may not have a decent team (Washington ?) and avoid at all costs a CCG. your coach has proven to be qood coach. seems like the last time he faced a team from the SEC he struggled a bit. i expect the trend to continue. :geauxtige
