Unless it was a deliberate act I don't think you can blame a injury to a player on another, MR probley thought SG had a better chance of picking up the yards (shake and bake) OR the pitch was a called play. MR is a good QB, last year he was having trouble with the long ball, UT beat him by loading up the LB's and taking away the short routes that Jimbo had penciled in for him, that is why he's throwing the long ball this year so he can improve himself. Just mho
Jean Lafitte is correct and I for one should not be debating something that has not come to pass this season. Hell we're winning and have an excellent chance at great year.
Lafitte's suggestion that we should choose our words carefully is a wise policy. The only problem with the "Corsair Rule" is that one man's constructive criticism is another man's bashing. It's hard to draw a line that works in every situation. If someone goes over the line with a personal attack on a player, coach, or a poster on this board, that is different. Brett already has a rule against that and we should let him handle it. http://www.tigerforums.com/tftos.htm But anything should be open to proper discussion here. Weaknesses as well as strengths, problems as well as superlatives, even criticism based on game observations. But we must forego the personal insults. Careless and disparaging personal remarks are never proper, but we must guard against censorship, which has been the bane of many boards. Just ask the refugees from the Lair.
Randall has game experience, can run the offense, and is our #2. If Jimbo had to structure a game plan around MR, he could do it and set LSU up for success against the rest of the schedule. The best thing for LSU is to keep the redshirts on JaMarcus and Matt as long as we can so they can learn the system for as long as possible. As far as offensive production vs MSU, even the poorest SEC defenses can rally and stop a great offense for a half a quarter or so with stunts, blitzes, disguised looks, etc. I thought we played great except for a few more dropped balls.
red55 is right. We have what I believe to be a fair and reasonable User Agreement. Opinions, compliments and criticisms about what takes place on the field or in regards to LSU are acceptable. Personal insults are not. There are a million shades of gray and I can't possibly predict which comments are acceptable and which are not. As a general rule try to be mature and judicious in your criticisms and realize these aren't professional athletes but students of the university we love. If you believe a comment has crossed the line please use the "Report this post to a moderator" feature at the bottom of each post to report it to a moderator and a decision will be made on a case by case basis.
He pitched the ball before anone was in his face because the play is designed that way. LSU has run that play a number of times this season and Mauck always pitches the ball early unless the play is designed for him to cut back and run the ball himself. LSU dosen't run a pure option play. 90% of the time the QB is going to pitch the ball before the last second. It gives the other teams something to think about. I suspect that sometime during the season the RB will pitch the ball back to Mauck who will throw the long ball to an open receiver.
Yes, Brett, we have a good policy. I just wanted to remind all of us about the policy. The main reason why we have the policy is because the players are college students, and it is unbecoming for grown men to bad mouth students, women and children. Maybe we could allow those who are current LSU students to say whatever horrible things they please about the players. That would be fair, because, when I was watching games from the student section of Tiger Stadium during my student days at LSU, I remember yelling some really awful things to the LSU players after a fumble or interception. Since we have no way of verifying who the current LSU students are, we'll just have to require everybody to obey the rule about ripping and bashing the players. That makes sense, right?
My only negative about Saban is that he didn't take the shirt of Russell or Flynn and start getting them PT from game 1 because if Mauck goes down we are up the creek w/out a paddle.
I disagree. I like that they both are getting redshirts. Mauck is running much less this year, and is not asked to make plays with his legs. He is at MUCH less risk of being injured this year as compared to last year. How often does a QB have season ending injuries 2 years in a row? The odds are against him getting hurt again. Sure, it could happen, but Flynn and Russell are still on the sideline. It would be nice to get them some reps, but if they are so far ahead of Randall that they would take his job, they probably dont need the reps, anyway. I just dont think its worth wasting a year. I think Saban has done what is best for the program, at the expense of this year, IF Mauck were to get hurt. The risk/reward ratio is higher this way, methinks.
Why can't you accept the fact that Saban thinks enough of Randall to be our backup QB? If it was so obvious that Russell/Flynn are better than Randall, don't you think Saban would have made one of them his #2 QB?
