seeing the cellphone clip is horrific because it forces you to imagine it as its happening just from hearing the intermittent shots. then it really pisses me off.

I can't help but wonder why this guy wasn't tackled by a bunch of college students. The first instinct is to run but if you're trapped in a classroom, I'd be ready to tackle anyone that came through the door - it's much better than jumping out a window.

As a card carrying concealed handgun owner who never leaves the house without a weapon. Had ANYONE had a firearm or better a few people several lives would have been saved. Listen I am all for gun control BUT until the bad people cannot get them then I will arm myself.

    For example.
The other day, my alarm went off, found out wind blew the door to the garage a bit open causing it. However had I not had a weapon drawn as I swept the house, what would have happened had I found the BTK killer standing in my living room ? Thrown a lamp at him. No.. Two the chest one to the head.
Fact is bad people dont get guns legally, I am fine with the one week wait period. We dont need assault rifles so no I am not an NRA guy. But until there are NO guns in the world I will always arm myself.. Heavily...
Now the purpose of that diatribe. Libs, please dont use this as a cause as "See had we had gun control this wouldnt have happened" Get a grip, had they allowed concealed weapons on campus someone could have taken this bastard down.

Soon we'll have undercover Class Marshals, just like Sky Marshals. I feel sorry for the the parents of the kids killed today. Parents shouldn't have to outlive their children. Very sad indeed.

My gut reaction is to say arm the teachers, however, most teachers wouldn't be able to use the weapon effectively, much less have the capacity to pull the trigger when need be. And, thinking back on some of the teachers I had in college, I wouldn't trust a lot of them with a weapon anywhere near my children.

There are no easy answers here. Stricter gun control laws are not the answer. Laws alone do not protect people....just ask the countries that have enforced very strict laws on gun ownership..their crime rates have actually gone up. Like red said, people (and I use the term loosely) like this guy know that school campuses are soft targets.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn that this guy listened to a 2Pac CD, watched Kill Bill, and snorted a line of coke, right before setting out on his killing spree.

In the end, this is just one more sick example of how our society is going down hill. Events like this are bound to become even more frequent. Every day, every week, every month, and every year that goes by, our society moves even further down the slippery slope.

    Damn right, O-Town folks don't play around:wink:

Seriously, this goes to prove that gun control is a joke. What these idiots do not realize is that the stricter the gun laws the more of a chance that stuff like this will happen. This guy had nothing to fear because VTech is a gun free zone.

If someone wants to go crazy then they will go crazy. Not much you can do to stop it.

This whole thing is somewhat oddly similiar to what happened at Iowa in 1991.

An Asian exchange student working on his PhD shot and killed five people in one of the campus buildings, including the dean.
....seems this guy (Gang Lu) had sent a letter complaining about the selection process for honorary students... didn't like the response.

After the shootings, he went into an empty classroom, folded his jacket neatly over a chair, then killed himself.

I'll be interested to see what triggered this guy.

(as a side note, it's always interesting how these situation alway stimulates mini-debates about gun ownership and gun laws... which to me are a distant second to the base causes of why these things happen, imo)

Greta just implied that he may have come in recently from out of country. Some student witnesses have said that he was looking for his girlfriend. Surely this guy didn't get jealous that the girl was maybe seeing someone else, lose it, fly over here, and just start killing people. It would explain a lot though. I find it strange that no one has said they knew him...which tells me he wasn't a student. The randomness of the shooting supports someone who didn't really know exactly where his target was. If he was looking for the GF, and gave up, it seems like he just decided to kill everyone else,....or maybe the GF was one of the killed. His not being from here would explain why it is taking so long for them to identify him.

WOW, you just really brought it home for me. We have a local girl who moved to NOLA, married a "Foreigner" and left him after they had a daughter. When she was first hired at my school, his picture was circulated and everyone told to notify office immediately if he was seen on campus.

She'd left, was "In hiding". He'd threatened to track her down if she ever left. She's remarried and has another child now but.....
