Re: 1 dead, 17 shot in Virginia Tech shooting I think Charles Whitman killed 16. I'm looking at the UT Tower now. It would, and obviously did make one hell of a sniper's nest. 1966 was a different time but it's still incredible to think that folks were going home, getting their rifles and returning Whitman's fire. Also interesting is the local sentiment in the Whitman shootings. Every year or so, I hear discussion of whether or not the UT should make some kind of memorial near the tower. So far, hasn't happened. In fact, from UT's point of view, it's as if it did not happen. Maybe that's good, I don't know. Many parents are gonna get the worst news of their lives today. I feel so sorry for them.
Re: 1 dead, 17 shot in Virginia Tech shooting Yeah, me too- don't mean to sound callous and I realize he must have had some issues but dam, doesn't everyone?? I just imagine how I'd feel if it was my daughter walking to classes and someone with "Issues" chose to randomly take her life.
OT, you'd be surprised how often a person does something unthinkable like this and the people who know/knew him and/or his neighbors say exactly what Tirk's saying. Most are introverts and live very private "Quiet" lives.
Used 2 handguns (9mm and .22 reported) and had multiple clips in a vest. He also chained the doors in the hall.
Damn. Most schools have a no firearms policy. But if just one of those kids had a legal firearm and knew how to use it the death toll might not be as great.
I can't help but think that college campuses are mostly gun-free zones like LSU. Even people with carry permits are forbidden to carry a weapon on campus. The lunatic didn't have to worry about any defensive fire. If he had walked into the Wal-Mart in Opelousas and started shooting, somebody would have shot him back.
No I wouldn't be surprised...gotta watch out for the quiet ones but quiet, class clown, problems, perfect life, whatever...DEAL WITH IT!!! And if you can't kill yourself, leave the people running around dealing with thier own stuff alone!! Sorry I know that sounds really horrible but I can't help it. I really am not usually that cold but, oh well....
Waco...Oklahoma City bombing ...April 19. Columbine , April 20.Now this on April 16.The 3rd week in April is bad news.I've had a feeling somebody was going to pull this kind of crap.
I hear ya, but do we really want students walking around campus with weapons? We'll probably hear over the next few days how there were warning signs and it could have been prevented if someone was paying attention, like Columbine. Don't have any answers for this kind of stuff. Just mindboggling.
