The media loves a story. They don't have a particular reason for loving USC - they love the story behind their success & everything affiliated with that. They would, and have in the past, feel the same way about any program that can stay on top.

If USC were to lose the rest of their games, they would "love" USC even more because it would be a great story. Everyone would be talking about it.

Go to Control Panel in the upper left hand side of the forum, & click Master Control Panel. From there, you can see where people gave you either positive or negative reputation points & sometimes they leave comments as to why.

I think that USC is a great team, but I still don't think that they play solid competition weak in and weak out. I agree that USC may beat Bama, may beat UT or Florida, LSU or Auburn; but when you have to play all of those teams every week, you have a good chance that one of those teams can slip up and beat you. I would bet a lot of money that if USC was in the SEC, they are not on a 30 game win streak...someone would beat them.

Even in their 2 National Championships, USC was fortunate enough not to play the BEST competition BOTH years. LSU in '03 and IMO Auburn in '04.

They are blessed with the good fortune of being in the LA media hub. They've got some great players and a mostly friendly schedule. When they've had to get up, they've done so, such as recently with Neutered Dame .

Until somebody beats 'em, we can whine all we want about their conference not being as good as ours, week in and week out, but it doesn't matter. They keep winning, they get the good press. The only thing to stop the trojan lovefest will be a good ole country asswhippin' at the hands of Texas (making the assumption that UT goes unbeaten). I look forward to it.

Let's see how USC does against Texas in the Rose Bowl. USC's quest for back-to-back National Championshis will come to an abrupt halt!!!

not so fast my friend. As long as Mack Brown is the coach, I wouldn't be so confident that UT will beat CU in the Big 12 title game. Gary Barnett is a great coach which should make for a very competitive rematch. The question is can Cal upset USC in hippie land? seems like they always play them tight there.

Yes, I would have thought it outlandish....apples to apples. There was nothing sooo spectacular that justified the extraordinary media praise. Not saying that Oklahoma was not a good team and I think I have made it clear that I am not saying that USC is not a great team...obviously they are. But professional caliber, please!

I accept the fact that this type of reporting is what sells and keeps the populace talking. Just think it would be hilarious to witness some accountability. You know, kinda like the Daly Show when he exploits some of the comments of others.

By the way, I appreciate the bad rep! :dis:  :dis:

chances are, usc will win out... and then next year we'll be praying for stanford, washington state, hawaii, arizona, or one of those awesome west coast teams to beat them.

    reasons for usc's success

    a) who the hell doesnt want to go to school in LA?
    b) their best consistent competition is oregon
    c) by the time you get to bowl season... the sec, big 12, big 10, and acc have a lot of players out... usc on the other hand has most of their starters out of harms way by halftime.
    d) pete carrol is a good motivator and his players trust him and execute their gameplan
    e) who do they compete with in recruiting...?
    f) if notre dame loses another game, that leaves usc with NOT ONE quality win for the season... their schedule is just overwhelming huh?
and g) the media support they get means anytime they have a good season, they'll be ranked highly... not that they dont deserve number one right now... but much like ND if they get a 20 point victory in week one... they're talking BCS championship.

also, they'll be good for a long time, because as long as all they have to do is win the pac 10.. they'll have a lot of money at their disposal to buy state of the art facilities and pay off players like miami and bama :-D

I'm reluctant to compare teams from different eras---too many variables with rules, scholarship limits/no limits, etc.---but from what I'll loosely call the "modern era" (1980-Present), this team blows everyone else away, IMO:

    1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers

    An excerpt:

They capped off the season by crushing Steve Spurrier and Florida 62-24. Nebraska rushed---not total yards, rushing yards---for *524 yards* in that game.

    524 yards rushing.

    In the national championship game.

Think about that for a moment.

I think Petey Carroll and his boys have a ways to go to match the 1995 Huskers...by a good damn stretch.
