Is there a coach at this school that you do not criticize? He hasn't even coached a game yet. This crap is getting old...

This is the first post I have ever seen by SabanFan questioning ANYTHING about ANY LSU head coach in the HISTORY of LSU athletics.

His hatred for Notre Dame runs deeper than we can even begin to fathom.

What are we running, a cult here?

I took his comments as an ultimate compliment to this baseball program.

Can't hold my tongue any longer. Are we really getting on this man for saying kind things about his former school? Has anyone even stopped to think that - being as his daughter is still a student and a cheerleader at ND - he is just trying to make nice? Can you imagine the backlash his daughter would get from ND fans if he bashed the Irish in the media?

I love my Tigers as much as anyone, but believe me, I love my daughter much more than that! And I'm sure he feels the same.

Please give the man a break. Yes, we'll crush the Irish on 1/3 and I'll love it. I have no special love for ND. But he spent a great deal of time there. Anyone who refuses to at least try to see this point is loopy.:dis:

Well, there was a little tongue in cheek in my comment about Maineri, but it is true that I have a deep seated hatred of anything Notre Dame that borders on the psychotic (I really want that bearded leprachaun hung by the balls and skinned alive at halftime). But, I understand that Maineri was being complimentary to his current employer. I just hope he has all of these defenders after a 2 game losing streak in March. You know I'll be here explaining why losing 2 to Kentucky does not necessarily equate to "Maineri must go!" :hihi:

Who cares? It's called being a professional. What, do you want him to come here and just automatically start talking bad about Notre Dame? I could understand that if his departure was a bad one and he was treated poorly - and even then, I would question the need - but it wasn't. I respect him all the more because it shows how much of a professional he is. You may as well crucify Les Miles for speaking well of Michigan and Bo Schembechler, since he's no longer a coach there. While we're at it, let's make sure we bash Nick Saban for saying anything good about LSU in the future, since he has a new job now and should move on.

Just because you leave jobs, doesn't mean you have to all of the sudden hate what you did before. I don't feel I should peg Maineiri down a few notches because of what he said, nor do I think he's "treading on thin ice". Seriously, the world is not colored purple and gold.

I'm just glad I don't think the way you do.

By the way, I'm pretty sure you would love every word of it had Saban said similiar things about LSU while coaching at Miami. There's a difference between moving on, and expressing how one feels. All he's doing is expressing how he feels, that in no way means he hasn't "moved on".

I think some of us are only pulling the negatives out of this. Here are some good things our coach said:

Still, Mainieri has already settled on how he’s going to handle the situation. Including with his cheerleader daughter, who will be sitting with him in the stands.
“I have only one rule within my family: they can’t wear any Notre Dame gear,” Mainieri said.

Naturally, Mainieri has been asked who he will be pulling for — the Tigers or the Irish?
“I say that’s not a hard answer to give — who signs my paycheck?” he said with a laugh.

“I think LSU will beat Notre Dame. I believe LSU is better than they are.
