Yea, I went around the SEC boards late in 03 when we were on a run. Auburn was mostly dead against us, but I'll tell you in the championship game, the vast majority of the SEC was pulling for LSU, or shall I say all the sane ones. And I remember many of them coming on our board with props and congrats after we won the nat. championship, and thats what I remember.

I don't post on any other board beside this one, I've read some of them, and there are some good posts and some awful posts. Its just the way it is.

Hopefully we're all having some fun! :)

    Congrats Auburn,

Even though tubby is a tub of sheet, a job well done on the draft today. Tubs obviously can recognize talent, good luck next year minus the ass whipping that's coming your way in BR.

Factoid: Since the 1967 draft, 5 teams have had 3 or more draft picks in the top 10:

    1967 Michigan State with the 1, 2, 5, 8

    1977 USC with the 1, 4, 5

    1987 Miami with the 1, 3, 9

    1995 Penn State with the 1, 5, 9

    2005 Auburn with the 2, 5, 9

Penn State and AU were undefeated and untied. Michigan State had a tie and the USC and Miami had one loss.

All 5 teams finished #2 in the AP

    Great quote from Barnell yesterday.

"Ronnie might have won the war, but the battle isnt over yet."

    Draw your own conclusions.

I'm not exactly sure what the quotes were about as the post are kind of vague. However if they are about Brown and Williams' rivalry, I think that shows that the 2 of them have a freindly rivalry going on, which is very, very common amongst teammates. And I am sure they are wishing for the best for each other.

That Mich. St team that had 4 players taken in the first 8 picks was awesome on defense and also had the guy that was named one of the top defensive 2 players of the first 50 years of modern college football I think. That's the year that Bama got screwed out of the Natonal Title because of the press' love of Notre Dame when Ara went for the tie vs Mich St.

An education is a valuable thing. It just amused me, that's all.

I think you can say that they only got screwed in the sense that there wasn't a playoff to give them a chance. Alabama had a great team, but the consensus was that ND and MSU were better. I think it would be even more perverse if the the top 2 teams played to a tie and you promote the 3rd team above them. Whether the 3rd team was really the 3rd team is a matter for debate, but that was the opinion at the time.

At that time the final poll was taken before the bowls. From looking at the results, it's obvious Alabama had a great defense and didn't really establish offensive dominance until the 2nd half of the season. But this was against inferior opposition. It wasn't until their dominant performance against Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl that they really demonstrated it. BTW, Bama wasn't even the sole SEC champion. They didn't play GA who was also undefeated in SEC play (lost only one game by 1 point to Miami). I think this also hurt Alabama.

ND also had a great defense (Bama gave up 37 reg season pts and ND gave up 38), but their offense was dominant from the beginning. From the record it looks like Michigan State was better offensively than defensively, but I'm sure that people recognized that their great talent could take over a game (Kill Bubba Kill!). The ND/MSU game was on a wet rainy day. I really don't know who that was a real advantage to. This was MSU's last game, but ND had one more game in sunny Cal against USC (tied UCLA for PAC Ten; UCLA beat them, but UCLA went to Rose the prior year and USC went to Rose), and they destroyed them 51-0.

If the polls had been post bowls, who knows what would have happened. Neither ND or Michigan State played in a bowl. ND didn't play in bowls as a matter of policy. Although Michigan State won the Big Ten out right, they went to the Rose Bowl in 1965. Back then the Rose Bowl and the Big Ten had a policy that teams could not attend back to back Rose Bowls and they couldn't go to any other bowl.

Sorry for the delayed response to this post, but your comment is hilarious because it's so, so true.

Just one SEC title that they had to hold on for dear life to win after going up 21 pts in the first half facing a team with a starting QB who couldn't rise above #3 on the depth chart while he was at LSU, I might add

Oh well, Auburn will return to its usual Tubby level of 3-4 losses
