This is a funny and interesting post. My gut feeling is that Miles and Jimbo have seen JR in practice after practice, and they realize that JR is not capable of completing long passes, either because JR does not have the accuracy OR the receivers can't run a proper route. This is my guess as to why the vertical passing game is not what you expect it to be. I note that, in college ball as a whole, the vertical passing game was very rare until this most recent era of college ball. This might be because there just aren't that many young men of that age who can run pass routes and throw accurately enough to make that kind of attack effective.
Miles has said that the vertical game isnt there because teh CBs are either playing 10 yards off or are pressing with deep help... thats why you see those 10 and out passes all day long... What i believe they are doing wrong is not getting enough crossing routes open... that is the true way to take advantage of WR speed.. get the ball to a reciever on the run across the middle and let him make a play. That, however, is not JR's strong point.. he tends to throw the ball to low with no touch, so the recievers have to worry more about catching the ball than running with it...
OK, ramah pajama, what are you gonna whine about this week? LSU threw downfield on more than one attempt. One was dropped by Bowe, one was taken to the house by Benny B. We scored 40 points, defense played lights out and offense had a good solid game. :thumb:
Ask Matt Flynn about our "vertically challenged" passing attack. I was sitting right in front of the touchdown pass. Looked pretty dahm good to me.
I am calling for LSU to throw about 10 long passes a game ... that opens up the running game and everything else we do ... Offensive production ... scoring and yardage stats would raise LSU into the Top Tier ... with USC & Texas. I won't settle for LESS ... you can ... go ahead, be FD&H! You're a FD&H Miles Homer! Dismissed!
