Any of you guys remember an Offense called the split back . One on either side of the QB instead of the I. Think of the possibilities with two tailbacks on the field at the same time. I can think of some wonderful possibilities with Matt Flynn running a little option from that formation . I dont know why teams dont use it anymore. I like it better than the I formation. You can definately pick up blitzes better and the way teams blitz these days it helps with protection issues. I remember LSU used it back in the Dalton James Gang days some.
I am guessing you are talking about Pro Formation? If so, it is mainly used in West Coast Offenses. I also like it for its ability to pick up the blitz. Hey, it worked pretty well for the Seahawks this year.
No kidding! Scott is listed as our 3rd-best prospect per rivals! IMO, should Keiland Williams indeed decide to commit to LSU! (we'll know in about 30 minutes), I project the running back depth chart as follows: 1. Alley Broussard 2a. Keiland Williams 2b. Justin Vincent (JV will probably be 2a to start the season, but KW will eventually surpass him...JV just seems to lack the confidence that made him a phenom as a Freshman) 4. RJ Jackson 5. Antonio Robinson Scott and Murphy redshirt. NOT that I believe Scott isn't as good as, if not better than RJ Jackson and A-Rob, but I feel that not matter what, we have too much quality depth ahead on the chart who've already redshirted, that can get the job done. Throw in the fact that fullbacks Hester and Steven Korte will get some carries and can lineup as halfbacks if needed.
remember JV played a little safety at the beginning of his first year. maybe he could go back if the young pups can step it up.
I don't know if Richard Murphy could possibly play DB but I do know that twice this year he literally knocked out a couple of opponents and sent one kid to the hospital - on special teams no less! So he is a BIG hitter.
What about JV??? Does no one remember back in his Freshman season--before all the injuries to the running backs mounted up--that JV was being tried out at Safety to add depth to the defensive backfield?!??? Well....Keiland, Scott and Murphy JUST might help to force him back in that same situation unless JV shows some SERIOUS improvements from his play the past two seasons....
To me right now JV's status is in limbo. I purposely left him out because of his knee injury. JV will miss the Spring and if he was going to move to the defensive backfield that transition would begin there but he won't be there. Plus we all expect JV to be back at full strength by the Fall but you never really know how someone is going to deal with an injury, surgery and rehabilitation. Or just how quickly the knee will heal.
With this stable of backs available, any chance that JV could redshirt to make sure he is 100% back from his knee injury?
But that could be said about AB as well. Face it, we're all a little hard on JV because, in our eyes, he's underachieved since '03, therefore, we're all more than willing to claim that he's: 1.) Not gonna be in the top 3 on the depth chart 2.) Moving to the secondary 3.) On the negative side of rehab, etc. I'm guilty of it.....but it appears that we're all being harsh on him before the time comes where ALL of our running backs are on the field at the same time (for fall practice)...
