This year is so freaky I'm not convinced camp attendence is a deal breaker when it comes to athletes like Michael. Next year looks to be freakier, unless we lose 6 games or something (did I just say that outloud?) I'm getting a vibe (just by reading) that the coaching staff and the academic center and LSU's recent draft/TV exposure success is making the Tigers a recruiter's dream. Imagine. LSU is doing so well out of state this year that we are cherry-picking a very, very good LA class. Plus we have some really amazing OOS 2010 talent already spouting off about loving LSU. I think the normal rules of the game may be a bit waiverable this year and next (and hopefully a long time to come).
Wilson won't be on a college campus until 2011, when he returns from his Mormon mission. IMO, LSU will want someone at TE that will play much sooner.
I think we can wait for him. It isn't everyday you can get one of the best TE's in the country that would fit our offense so well. Dickson is only a junior this year and has 2 years left to play. Therefore, Wilson will be in his freshman year when Dickson graduates. Someone like Tyler Edwards could probably assume Dickson's role if Wilson isn't ready in his freshman year. The pros are that Wilson will be 2 years older and physically more mature--even if he doesn't lift a weight. I don't see many Mormon's getting into a whole lot of trouble with the law and partying, trouble qualifying, etc. If the other TE's aren't developing as planned we can still take another one next year. It isn't like we have any other options at TE this year anyway. I don't even know that he will count against this year's classes numbers if he takes his mission immediately.
I had no idea Dickson had a brother, much less one that played the same position. Is he as highly touted as Dickson was coming out of high school? As I recall Dickson played DE also and was quite an athlete out of MS, ranked very high by the services.
Wow, you would have to think we stand a great chance at him with a brother here that is excelling. I am a great believer in acquiring athletes with a proven gene pool- so to speak. You see it over and over, Ken Griffey, Ken Griffey, Jr.--Bobby Bonds, Barry Bonds--Archie Manning, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning--the list goes on and on in every sport, even crossing sports, for example, Calvin Hill, Grant Hill, etc. Are we waiting for Shaq to produce a winning b-ball team for us or what?
FYI, Wilson and Filo might not even go on a Mormon mission at all. Some go that route and other do not and they have not decided if they will or not.
I thought I had read somewhere that XSF is active LDS, but Wilson is not and wouldn't be on a mission. Perhaps I'm confusing Wilson with someone else?
