If the tigers won the championship in the sugar bowl the state of Louisiana would officially shut the f*ck down! I don't know about N.O. drank dry but it would be close.
This years chances -- less than 10% Strong team, good coach, but unproven QB and thin at some positions. Longshot chance like 25 other teams. Next years chances -- better than 50% Both of Nicks #1-ranked recruiting classes will be out of their redshirts and playing. Talent at depth, with a capable QB. Top five team and NC contender.
I love the late summer, when optimism runs high... LSU goes 7-0, under the Herb Tyler-esque "win with points not stats" moxy of Matt Mauck heading into the Game of the Decade with 7-0 Auburn... In the second quarter with Auburn up 13-3, Matt takes a sack, gets a deep bruise in his throwing shoulder, and has to take off the pads and ice down...JaMarcus Russell comes off the bench and immediately throws an INT eventually resulting in 7 more AU points. His confidence doesn't suffer, though, and he comes back and throws two TD passes and runs for another in the second half as LSU wins 24-20. The media and fans go haywire over JaMarcus, but the young man understands that right now, this is Matt Mauck's team...He is responsible for getting them to this point. Coach Saban also understands the situation and wants JaMarcus to get valuable playing experience, and inserts him on several plays, some successful, some not, over the next three victories. Coach then lets him clean up the Arkansas game, which is already way over with by the 3rd quarter with LSU up 28-0. The SEC Championship game is huge for the Tigers. A rematch against Tennessee, who backed into the game after losing to UF but beating UGA. Tennessee has the spoiler role this time around, having fallen to the upstart Tigers two years ago. On the third play from scrimmage, Mauck drops back and has the pocket collapse--he completes a 15 yd out to Clayton just as a UT defensive lineman rolls over his good ankle. The crowd holds its breath; Jamarcus puts on his helmet and starts warming up. Mauck walks off under his own power--it's just a sprain. The Tiger trainers tape him, but it's not enough; he can't support his weight on the bad ankle. In the meantime, the Tigers blow the wind out of the Tennessee sails by methodically marching down the field with run play after run play for the eventual one-yarder by Addai, who is gaining 5 yds per carry on this drive. Tennesee has to regroup--LSU has a freshman QB in and they're going to run, run, run...They load up the box and expose themselves to the deep ball--big mistake. It seems that, on this night, Fulmer is always one step behind Saban. JaMarcus and the Tigers explode, rattling off a passing touchdown, a 35 yd run by Addai, another long pass from JaMarcus to Green, and finally a QB sneak from the 1 by Russell. The final score is 35-21. The victory was never seriously in doubt. The cameras catch the Clausen brothers crying in each other's embrace. The Tigers are going to the Sugar Bowl vs. undefeated Oklahoma. (not sure what happens from there.)
Who's job was it to request the wake up call from the the front desk? Must have been SabanFan's. I think LSU will do well this year. Almost certain they will do better than last year, but LSU is good for at least one choker a year. Oh and SabanFan, it's raining. RTR
True, LSU has come up short in years past. But then again, Ohio State was known for choking the big one against Michigan every year. We all know what they did last year.
