LSU: 237 points given up all season, or 18.2 ppg Auburn: 337 points given up all season, or 25.9 ppg So LSU's defense is about 1.4x better than Auburn's. And honestly, why are you nitpicking about an obvious hyperbole? The point was that LSU's defense was much better than Auburn's last year, which is true.
you guys still talking 2010 ? if I was a Duck I would still be talking 2010 and watching all the re-runs of Sports Center ! TCU Oregon BSU the 3 best teams in the country - oh yea Auburn also ! What does Baton Rouge think of TCU BSU Oregon Ducks ? little girls wanting to play with the big Boys ! Big Boys - 5 in a row little girls - 0 you can dance all you want but the facts back me up - you guys can't hang with the big boys just post every team you have beat over the last 3 years that you rate as a top win Stanford - for sure what else ?
Just curious, how many guys are you replacing on your D front? And did the new guys play a lot last year? I know Oregon rotates their D players alot, mostly every 3-4 plays. So while we may be replacing some, the new ones have played quite a bit. Does LSU do the same? Does LSU rotate that often or do they leave their starters in longer?
Replacing two starters, but one of the starters was only a starter because the original starter went down with injury. The injured guy is back in full force. #99 Sam Montgomery. Only played in 6 games, and was still All Freshman SEC. And yes, we do rotate a lot on the line. We rotated 8 guys last season, and I'd guess they all played in every game. However, if we have any question mark on the DL, I'd say it's at DT. Looks like we will be starting a freshman, although he was the highest rated DT in this past recruiting class. Anthony 'Freak' Johnson. The fact that we're starting a freshman though isn't because there isn't anyone else. If he starts, he will be unseating an upperclassmen, and again, at least 8 will play.
Just noticed you mentioned how UO rotates every three-four plays on the DL. That's what LSU did last season, bringing in more speed rushers at the ends on third down or typical passing situations. #49 Barkevious Mingo and #99 Sam Montgomery are extremely fast...like literally 4.5. Mingo played LB and even cornerback in high school. He's very tall, and has added about 25 lbs since arriving on campus two years ago.
I would bet that it's not a Duck coach saying LSU is small and slow. I'm sure they have done their homework. You don't beat bama, Florida and manhandle tam with weak , slow and small players.
BS, you use stats every day to suggest something, don't get upset if someone else does, too. Auburn allowed 24.07 points a game last season, LSU allowed 18.23. 33% better. THE POINT is that LSU's #11 scoring defense was far better than Auburns #53 defense last year, and this years LSU defense is better than last year.
And it's unlikely that this year's UO offense is as good as last year's UO offense. Of course those are opinions that have yet to be proven.
I'm happy someone is actually starting to use some back and white fact, using stats to make a point. In this instance however, you can't use RANKINGS to suggest one team is 10x better... You really can't go by scoring (as you do above) alone either. If so, you would also be suggesting that LSU's defense was just .46 of a point better than Oregon, and Stanford's D was .15 better than yours. Now I know from prior posts, that you would never suggest that, right? Using OTHER statistics give you a better representation of the point that's trying to be made. I agree that LSU's over-all defense was much better than Auburn's, and a bit better than Oregon's and Stanford's last year. Head and shoulders above Oregon's and Stanford's is where we disagree.
