So let's say Florida loses both of their games (FSU and Ark)... Ark gets Sugar Louisville and WV win out Boise State loses... Does Louisville and WV get BCS bids?
Louisville gets in as the Big East Champ (automatic bid). WVU can only get an automatic bid if USC loses one of its last 2 games. Why is that you ask? Because if USC wins out, the final standings would look like this (with the Florida losses you allude to): 1. Ohio State 2. USC 3. Michigan 4. WVU 5. LSU 6. Louisville Michigan gets the automatic berth as a #3 team from a conference whose champ gets an automatic bid (Big 10). This disallows the #4 team to do the same (only 1 bid given out in this fashion). Therefore, WVU and LSU, in this scenario are both eligible for an at-large berth (along with Notre Dame who will still be in the top 14 in the BCS). Florida will be long gone with 2 straight losses. LSU vs. Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Boise State losing is such a good thing I can't even begin to tell you. A USC loss to Notre Dame yields the following: 1. Ohio State 2. Michigan 3. Notre Dame 4. WVU 5. LSU 6. Louisville Michigan, Notre Dame and WVU get automatic at-large bids. Louisville still in as Big East Champ. LSU would get the last at-large since Boise State lost. LSU vs. USC in the Rose Bowl.
islstl, damn, you seem to know your stuff. In terms of helping LSU's position in the BCS, you are saying it really matters NOT what Florida does in this game, correct? -utterly confused.
florida losing one opens up the possibility that they may get selected over us, or wvu getting an automatic bid combinded with a ND win.... correct me if im wrong
So what we def. need to happen is a Boise State loss... And if WV lost or had to squeek by SOuth Florida would help.
Yep right now BSU is stealing an at-large bid. One less to go around. Boise St losing would increase our chances very much. Yep, we only want the Big Least to get ONE bid.
sounds like the biggest immediate impact game today is Boise St-Nevada? Boise State falling today creates an immmediate open spot in the BCS for LSU to slide into....correct?
It matters only if a whole bunch of other things happen. The easiest thing to grasp is if Florida beats Arkansas next week, they are going to the SEC CG. Florida's win or loss against FSU is essentially neglible if that happens. That part should be easy to follow. Arkansas would have 2 straight losses and be out of contention. Yes, Florida losing 2 straight games should effectively take them out of the BCS picture. Alternatively, Florida losing at all allows for a very distinct possibility that Michigan, Notre Dame, WVU and Boise State will take all 4 at-large bids automatically. So, its based on what you believe will happen in the future as to what you want Florida to do today. There are many that fear that Florida winning today and then losing the SEC CG will give Florida the nod over LSU for the Orange. And I agree that's probably true. But my contention is that the Rose Bowl will pick LSU anyway, so who cares what the Orange would do in that situation. I know the Rose Bowl will not pick Notre Dame as Michigan's opponent, nor W. Virginia. It's LSU vs Michigan. I am standing by that to the bitter end. So that's why I hope Florida wins today and next weekend, to prevent the 4 automatic at-large berths from being given out and LSU be totally left out.
