For this aspect of the game, all the defensive secondaries need to do is just giving the WVU receivers a "nice" big grin Now that I think of it, LSU's defense is quite intimidating:LSU231:
Never underestimate a ranked team on their home field. We should win, but it ain't carved in stone. And it won't be a cakewalk.
Against LSU I would try a lot of quick passes. Make the LB's work and neutralize LSU's speed up front and in the secondary. It's also critical that our LB's don't lose containment on Smith. LSU is so fast off the edges that a speedy QB can make them pay if someone doesn't spy him.
Make them earn their points. Don’t give up ANY big scoring plays, cover Kickoffs and Punts, and for the love of the big man, no turnovers. This is going to be a true test for our LB's. They will have to step up. Chavis will need to use a lot of the Mustang package. Anybody who has reviewed any film on the Tigah's Defense and has a functioning brain, knows you CANT run the ball. If you want to move the football, pick on our short field pass coverage. We win this game again with defense!
THIS - WVU can’t run as it is, much less run on this defense. I say we rush 4 all night, show few blitz packages, and run the SPY all night bringing pressure without showing it. Stay with the SPY on the QB & RB, so we can eliminate the screen plays. That is where WVU can really burn us, they have some speedy little backs who can get huge YAC in open space. That will really begin to frustrate our defense, especially if we are not able to lay hits and the little guys are just falling to the turf as our backers are coming to lay the wood.
Last year they had a total of 177 yards for the game, more of the same. Rushing yards were 58. They had a 1,000 rusher in Noel, but as a team 58 yards. I think that Chief and the guys have this one down.
I do too. In Chavis I Trust. That is my one and only concern about what WVU can do to beat us, anything beyond that, LSU can only beat themselves.
