All I can say is that I support the university, but that doesn't mean in 5 months I'll be in a supportive mood for their football squad. I'll say no Tiger Baits and boo no one, but if someone dishes they best expect to receive the same in return.
I recently attended an LSU baseball game...vs. USM on the Saturday of the series. We parked the car, and began the walk across Nicholson to The Box. I couldn't help but notice not one, but two seperate vehicles that had been vandalized...spray painted "USM Sux" on the sides of the cars. One of the car owners had the audacity to place a small USM sticker on his bumper , and the other really rubbed it in by having a MS license plate.o: Now, there I was, a rabid LSU fan, but with MS plates on my vehicle, worried the whole game that my car would also be vandalized. I could only hope that whoever was doing it saw my son and I get out of the car with our LSU shirts and hats on. I say this to get to this point---As LSU fans, we have a reputation, and as a group, we have earned it. I think it's funny...not ha ha funny,,,but funny, that we're talking about how the VT fans called us overrated on national TV! Oooh, that really hurt us. Come on, you know TS would have been rocking with the same cheer had the shoe been on the other foot. I too became less of a VT fan when they backed out of the game in 2002?, but whatever we do when they come to town, let's do it respectfully. I made sure to say "as a group, we have earned it", because I'm sure 99% of LSU fans, and probably 99.9% of those on this forum would never do anything like what I personally witnessed at the baseball game. But, that being said, it casts us all in a bad light, and there is no arguing that point. By the time LSU and VT meet, most will have to be reminded about this terrible tradgedy. But it doesn't matter who it is we're playing. As fans, we should rise above the level of other fans by showing respect, all while cheering our team on as loudly as possible, and hoping we kick the crap out of any team that steps into TS.:geauxtige
Did you see them spray paint it or could it have been shoe polish or some other type of removable paint. Maybe just a prank an LSU fan was playing on their MSU buddies. Just saying. Not very typical for the LSU baseball crowd. Football maybe. But not Baseball.
I think it would be cool if they blocked off a section of 32 seats (or more if needed unfortunately) and place a rose or something on each to pay tribute to the students who were killed. As far as the game is concerned, I hope we rip them a new a-hole. ASU was very gracious until gametime, then they got loud and nasty. Didn't bother me a bit.
I walked within 5 feet of the two cars, and could plainly see the overspray. Probably just some bored students or something, but nonetheless... The point of my post is that we should ALWAYS show respect, whether deserved or not. Be the bigger fan, if you will.
We will be their first game away from Blacksburg http://www.hokiesports.com/football/schedule.html I think the fans shouldnt be treated poorly. I think that the tailgators should welcome VT fans like the majority of us do anyway. Several days ago, Sunday in fact, I had completly different views on that subject. I think we should all be on the look for anyone who feels the need to make light of the situation via signs (leave that junk to Bears scum) or verbal insults ("Go back home- if you have one"- Flordia fans). It's bad for everyone, and it will recieve media attention. Now, for the actual team during the game...that's different...I dont think they should be booed when they come out, but when the game gets into swing it should be business as usual.
Considering I have Texas plates, a USM sticker, and an LSU badge on my vehicle, I think it would confuse the vandals long enough to make my move. I would strike swift and deadly.
Would be a nice touch...very respectful. I saw a singing group that had just lost one of it's members, and at the first concert after his death, they set up like they always had, and his mic was placed in the mic stand like always. They placed a rose beneath his mic stand on the floor, just a show of respect, and to show that he would be missed, but not forgotten.
Probably so. It's probably the student body that will feel the impact of this the most and therefor they may not be as distastefully as they would be to the deserving SEC schools. Personally I will not do anything differently. And I don't see why booing their team when they come on the field is a big deal. It would almost be disrespectful not too. I'm sure they will be ready for some football by that point too. If it's a day game then we won't even need to worry about any of this. :bncry:
