Because we are not at the practices with Walker Howard, reviewing videos of Walker Howaand with Walker everyday like our coaches are. So BK doesn't have a clue how good Nuss is after all his success coaching high school and college?
Nuss has been on campus two years and neither coaching staff thought he was good enough to start. We may not have game data, but there's a reason why we don't. Two coaching staffs have now had a chance to thoroughly evaluate him at practice and have come to the same conclusion - he's not the best QB on the team and thus that's why he's a backup.
Throwing Howard out there now would be a disaster. For one, he's fresh out of high school and is nowhere near ready to face an SEC level defense, especially behind the new OL we have out there. Consider this: 4 out of our starting 5 OL just arrived on campus, 2 are true freshmen, 2 are transfers who have underperformed and the last one, Dellinger, is out with a hand injury. Is that the OL you want protecting a fragile, freshman QB that is just trying arriving on campus and probably doesn't even know his way around campus? JD is by far the best we have whether we like it or not!
BK hasn’t earned my trust yet. There are red flags that may wind up being nothing, but I’m just reading trends. I’m ok with waiting because that is the only option, but if BK was on a one year trial I’d be vetting other candidates considering what we’ve seen so far.
Jarrett Lee was ruined in a similar manner. I’m not trying to rush Howard out there. There is a second string QB, however, who should be getting PT by default considering the shit show QB1 has been.
