I hear ya...I'd have been there but my son had two basketball games (had to be at the gym at 7:30am  ) and we had a nephew's B-day party Saturday...just filled up the day. I zonked out after the final buzzer...
Yeah the way to overcome turnovers is to shoot 75%. Ain't gonna happen. Turn the ball over 17 times in the first half and 25 overall........do that every night and see how many games you win in the tourney against say.....UAB. We turned the ball over that many times and beat Tenn.......yeah, but Tenn. shot poorly too. Tenn. shoots 45% and they have a shot to beat us the other night. The 17 turnovers in a half has got to go.....if we do that, we'll get beat by teams we shouldn't lose to time and time again.
Fine, but give LSU credit for holding Tennessee to a low shooting percentage. And, thank you, Captain Obvious, for pointing out that 25 turnovers will usually get you a loss. I had no idea.:dis:
Tenn would have had a better chance to win if they had just played us straight up. The press got them turnovers but it also got LSU about 30 easy points. We struggle when forced to run an offense.
While I'm sure folks don't think of Brady as a genius on offense, I'll have to respectfully disagree. If Tennessee does slow it down, we dump it down to who else, our NBA front line of Davis and Thomas who have no one able to guard them on Tenn's team. I know our offense isn't poetry in motion yet, but I believe Tennessee had to press and wanted to to keep the tempo high and attack the one weakness on our team ... yes, guards. Perhaps they could have pressed and fallen back into a zone of some sort and forced outside shots, but not man. Just MO. As for our offense, give us some credit. Look at how badly Arkansas struggles in a halfcourt. This is a team that has had a few years of good recruiting and ... experience (rare thing these days). Brewer and Modica are legit NBA-ers, they've got a 7 footer in the middle, and are talented. They are being coached by Stan Heath, an IZZO disciple, and probably someone in the mold of a coach many Brady bashers would love to take over the reins at LSU. Yet, they struggle even more when they run their half-court sets (hence, we beat them on their court). Credit also to Brady and team to recognize and attack the rim once they break the press. I've often felt that this team doesn't transition very well, and I think in the last couple of years, Brady has really improved that.
Our guard weakness is on the offensive side of the ball, not defensive. We have shut down opposing guards time and time again this year. They should have just dropped into a zone the whole game and made Garrett Temple and Ben Voogd attempt to beat us with the outside shot. Don't forget Mitchell was out for most of the game with foul trouble. Tyrus Thomas is not smooth with his back to the basket yet and gets most of his points off of the Glen Davis double team assists and cleanup baskets. Tenn would have played us much closer with that defensive scheme. Just let Wingate man up Glen 1on1 and play a zone. They are two shooting guards. There is no PG on Arkansas' team. He's garbage on the offensive side of the ball. We beat them because of our half court defense against Modica and Brewer. They don't have anyone to drive and dish efficiently. Hog fans don't like Heath. They don't think he gets his players to work hard enough.
I never spoke to you dude so chill the F out. I quoted somebody else who thought that turnovers weren't the most important thing. I differed. No go f yourself if you want to be a jerkoff.
I absolutely agree with this. I was at the game and I've watched others on TV and our offensive gameplan seems sorely lacking to me. Many times in the halfcourt, I can't seem to find any discernible offense being run...... at least not one that helps us get easier shots. Tenn., with the screens and cutters along the baseline, had many easy layups out of their set offense and we mostly had jumpers out of our offense. We weren't forced to run our offense in the halfcourt much against Tenn. but I agree, Tenn. would have had a better chance I think if they slowed it down and made us play halfcourt. Pearl disagreed though.........he thought they needed to run.......maybe when they had the ball that was true. But I would made us slow it down and taken off that press.
if you read my post carefully you will see i agree that no team will shoot 60% every game. lsu didnt lose the game against UAB because of turnovers. played with no intensity til 5:00 left. i guess i am not being clear on the turnovers. they are not good. they do not help your team win. they should be minimized, BUT you do not want your team to play tentatively. especially with young players, a coach needs to be careful about harping on turnovers. brady could get this team to avg less than 10 turnovers/game, but then you get an offense like the 01-03 teams where they pass it around the perimeter for 30 sec. with time, this team will take care of the ball better even without brady brow-beating them.
