I think you could be right.
    TT is the bomb!
It's been a long time since I saw any basketball team have as many to's
as they did and still lead at halftime much less win.
Like I've said before, I'm always for a tougher early schedule.
I will also give Brady credit, Florida hasn't beaten us in 2 years.
Speaking of Florida, it will be interesting to see how our big men match up
    against Florida's big men.

I watched it on TV from the second half on. This team will make some noise this season. Definately an exciting team to watch...especially the way they are so generous and give the other team the ball so much. Man we cut down on TO's and this team is unbeatable.

The Cox announcers mentioned the crowd...most in the PMAC this season. Plus, from what I could hear, they were pretty rowdy. That only helps this team play better.

True, but...Tennessee's defense was awesome and the refs were letting them get away with a lot of contact on the press(not a complaint, just an observation).

I thought Voogd played an excellent 2nd half but couldn't help but notice that Darrell was running the point when we were trying to protect the late lead. I realize that ball handling is a weakness of this team, but UT's "D" played a large part in the 25 TOs. For the bashers, please note that 17 of those were in the 1st half.

I wasn't able to watch, only listen, but I'm glad to hear that folks are reporting they liked what they saw out of Voogd in the second half. Voogd's maturation will be important as the season goes on, as we're one injury to D.Mitch (god forbid) away from being in big trouble, if Voogd doesn't feel comfortable in SEC play. I was a little disappointed in his A-2-TO line, as he turned it over almost twice as much as he assisted, but I was pleased to see he hit some shots, including a 12 foot banker in a critical time.

As noted above, if this Tiger team had even one more good (and I mean legitimately good) ball handler and sure passer on the perimeter, and improved its turnover statistic, they'd probably be a one or two loss team right now and ranked pretty high. If they improved their FT (which they seem to be now) earlier, we might be undefeated! :)

:geauxtige Key games next week with Miss St. at Starkville and 'Bama at home. Let's try to get a 12,000+ crowd for 'Bama!

again, too many worry too much about turnovers.

the 00 team had tons of them.

there are ways to make up for it--

    shoot 60%--wont happen much
hold opponent to 40%-will happen often with this team
dominate the boards-will happen often with this team
create the same # of turnovers by oppt-wont happen much with this team

I don't think you can EVER worry too much about turnovers. Although, I agree, there are ways to make up for it, and yes, we did win against Tennessee, I would prefer to see the Tigers improve in this department. If I were coaching staff at LSU, I would be working HARD with the guards everyday on their handling and understanding presses.

Remember that UTenn (as good as they were doing) is actually a somewhat imbalanced team, and a team that's "rebuilding" under a good coach in Pearl. He had to play the frenetic pressing style against the Tigers because of what he has on his roster and his lack of big men. Once the Tigers got settled and had their confidence together to break the press, it was easy for Davis and others to score close to the basket. We've got to think about the elite teams having more balance and more overall talent than Tennessee. If we're giving the ball up 25 times or even 20 times in the NCAAs we may not be able to rely on rebounding and defense to get us back in the game (especially when turnovers lead to points against us). Remember we thought the same kinds of things going into play UAB... need I say more. And, the '00 team? They got beat by Wisconsin.

i dont think turnovers are good. but i think perhaps if the young players are harped on too much about it they will become tentative. that would be worse than turnovers. with time, they should become better.

Turnovers are definitely a problem with this team. Point guard is our weakest position. Only experience will help. Still, I think the Vols played very well defensively and the officiating let them really go body to body on the double and triple teams. A more tightly officiated game would have fouled out 3 players by half time. I think we got a few calls in the 2nd half, but by then, Tennessee was so confident with what they coud get away with that they started reaching and using their hands a lot more. Luckily we were hitting our free throws once UTs shooters got going. A good sign in that the early late game breakdowns seem to have been reversed. Or at least they are headed in the right direction. We're going to lose some games, but it will be exciting.
