    Re: Official Rivals Rankings (Current)

    Rivals takes the top 20 players.

    Right now LSU has it's top 15 players that are all 4 and 5 star. Five players are still 3 star, plus Clairborn who is 2 star, but he has been pushed out as the worst rated player already (we have 21 recruits currently).

    If the next 5 players LSU lands is 4 stars or better, they replace the five 3 star players we have now as our "new best top 20".

    Hopefully that made sense.

    That's why late in the year when a top 10 team takes a 3 star player and already have 20 recruits, they don't replace anyone and all they do is bring your overall average down, thus actually lowering your overall point total by just a little bit. It happened to LSU late one year recently that I can remember.

    i think it made sense but the part of you saying each recruit from here out will yield less points confuses me.

    if you're adding higher ranked players and dropping lesser ones out, you're adding points, no?

    happened when we added Hester late in '03 i think.

    Oh, the yielding less and less points meant we got 235 points Loston replacing a 2 star Claiborne. So if we had picked up Debose, e.g., then we would have gotten less for him since he was replacing a 3 star player (e.g., Williford). So Randle will probably be worth about 180 or so, but I have not done the math.

    That's what that meant.

    Tomorrow morning I will put up a list of the players LSU has the best possible chance to pick up and their respective point values.

    For instance..

    If a high 3-star is worth 50 points.. and a high 4-star is worth 100 points.. You gain 50 points by dropping the 3-star and adding the 4-star.

    If a low 3-star is worth 25 points.. and a high 4-star is worth 100 points.. You gain 75 points by dropping the 3-star and adding the 4-star.

    Correct?

    Re: Official Rivals Rankings (Current)

    Point values of remaining players on LSU's board (+- 5 pts margin of error):

    Randle = 179
    Benton = 173 (if he counts)
    Debose = 172
    JJones = 71
    Patterson = 71
    Montgomery = 71
    Myles = 60
    Mingo = 57
    Kelly = 57
    Su'a Filo = 57
    Sentimore = 57
    Ford = 72 (elevated to a 5 star)
    Davenport = -70 (downgraded to 4 star)

    Let's put the numbers to work:

    If LSU gets Randle, Montgomery, Myles, Mingo and Ford gets 5th star:

    179+71+60+57+72 = +439 = 3017

    The record is 3018 by USC in 2006.

    Max for LSU = 179+173+172+71+71 = +666 (how evil of LSU) = 3244
    Min for LSU = 179+57 = +236 = 2814

    LSU's all time high is 2695 in 2007.

    Even the Min all but guarantees LSU finishing #1 on rivals.

    LSU appears set to end up with a 4.00 or better average, the first time in their history.

    Those point values will change as the current class does.
