This is not a fact. His injury was nothing more than the usual we'll say he's hurt so he can still redshirt. You guys all know this, but feel you have to use this type of little coach speak crap to defend Miles. I guess we need to send out a memo to both sides of the love Miles or hate him debate that either way you feel, you can't expect him to be perfect. Jordan Jefferson was no more hurt than anyone else on the team. Miles made the decision to redshirt a freshman QB after letting him take a few snaps. (This is common practice) It bit him in the ass. This however does not make him a bad coach, or a good one. It was one decision.
up until the last 2-3 games of the season, Lee was indeed LSU's best QB. The light bulb didn't go off for Jefferson until very late in the season and he was flat awful early in the year at reading things and handling the speed of the game. Remember the Troy game how badly the kid got kicked around the field? He just simply wasn't ready. And playing an 18-year-old kid when he's not ready could have just as easily eroded his mind the way it eroded J. Lee's mind over the course of the season. Lee improved GREATLY in the offseason and he may well be LSU's best QB this season, too. Let's not assume this is a closed case, because it's not. Both kids will be much improved and if Lee improves his vision, he may well be LSU's best QB. Let us not forget that Jefferson's only 2 starts came in a loss to a weak Arkansas team and in a game that he had a month to prepare for.
I agree with this part, however, the thing that stands out to me is this. Jefferson seems a lot more poised than Lee ever did. He may not have set the world on fire his first couple of times on the field, but he did not become a deer in the headlights. He showed the simple ability to throw the ball out of bounds if nothing was available. He showed the simple ability to not stare down the target receiver. He is more infinitely more mobile, yet doesn't just run as soon as he sees his first option is covered. He carries himself like a leader, and every time since the spring game that I've heard an LSU player talk about him, they have all...to a man...indicated that he is the leader. That is vital to the success of this team. JJ has it, JLee does not. - FWIW, I do think Lee is VERY talented and gifted...with his ARM. I hope he is able to move past last season, learn from it, and prosper in the future.
maybe these qualities didn't show up in practice. hell Rohan had these qualitites over Booty on gameday. but for some reason, TWO different coaches saw it the other way around in practices. And as far as his injury is concernec, no one said he had his shoulder amputated. If as an 18 year old true freshamn, you have to miss a week or 2 of practice, you're gonna fall even farther behind than you already are. So you red-shirt him. At the time the decision was made, it was the right choice.
I never really believed Jefferson was injured last season...I thought, like some of you guys that it was a redshirt move. As far as Lee telegraphing who he was going to throw to goes, I still wonder why the QB's don't have smoked visors on their helmets. There was a thread about this last season and the point was made that a doctor couldn't see into a players eyes in case of injury. Can't those things be removable like a chin strap? I bet James Bond's gadget man could make it work !!! He could probably make a visor that beamed some sort of hypnotic ray into the DB's eyes...maybe even a tractor beam to make the ball go exactly where the QB looks. That would have turned Jarrett Lee into a super hero capable of saving all mankind...you know like Super Tebow. (where's the barfing smilie?)
I didn't see anything wrong with the thread starter's post. I am in full agreement. Everyone on this forum would "cringe" the first time Lee slings the ball down field under duress. And if you say you wouldn't, you're telling a big fat lie. I certainly hope Lee is improved, because at some point in the season there is a good chance he will have to step up and contribute. Until I see evidence of such, my confidence and faith in him is marginalized.
I agree. I think JJ is a better QB now for not being thrown to the wolves last season. We'll do just fine on offense this year:geauxtige!
