So it is hump day, I'm trying to get my mind off of all the annoying people I had to deal with today, Mike passing, trying to swallow the bile in my mouth every freaking time I hear the talking heads love on the gumps, and FU being douche bags so I turn on the TV and I was surprised to see a football game on. Well look who it is UL and our old friend Anthony Jennings. I don't mean any slight on this kid but why the hell did we recruit this guy? He is frankly looking rough against Appalachian state. Biased on what I am seeing he is in no way an SEC or maybe not even an sunbelt caliber QB. The only thing that looks like is doing anything at all is the zone read, which he can run somewhat effectively, but the long/medium/short balls are not there. Why did we go after this guy again? Was he great in HS and just flopped in college? I mean isn't that something most scouts have roughly nailed down as far as what to look for with someone that might fall apart like this? I know it is impossible not to miss on 100% of players but if you sit back and think who was the last great QB that was recruited to LSU. Excludes mett or etling b/c they are transfers. Mauck is really the one that comes to mind and he wasn't a "game changer", he managed the game (and did so quite effectively). I know sometimes that is all you need, but with all the talent in Louisiana It blows my mind that we are unable to find those special players at the QB position. I mean we had one in our back yard in dak prescott but couldn't get him to stay home. Hopefully with all the change in the air this will change too. If we can indeed land Brennan and he stays out of casinos until he is of age maybe we can get a good QB.
Flynn was a good a QB, not great, but did everything asked of him and made minimal mistakes. But he too was a Saban era recruit. Under Miles' tenure LSU recruited/developed no one QB-wise.
We didn't get quality QBs because no QB worth a flip wanted any part of the Fred Flintstone offense Miles ran. Hopefully that will change immediately as other coaches show that a real offense is being installed.
A good coach adapts his offense to his QBs abilities, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Did Miles ever do that?
Of course he did. None of our QB's could throw worth a shit under Miles, so he adapted by strengthening our QB's abilities to hand the ball off.
This was what I thought while I was watching jennings. Did we ever see miles even try zone read plays with jennings? I don't think we did. The words square peg round hole come to mind
If thats the case miles was more stupid than I have previously thought. You can see that on display for the last several sundays
