I don't think he was expecting it to go out of bounds. It looked as though he was suprised, and made a quick (bad) call. watch it again. for the first time.
All that matters is that it was a very good punt. He (Jackson) has been doing one hell of a job this year. I've never seen a team pin the opposing team inside the 5yrd line as many times as we have in just 4 games.
PROPS TO CHRIS JACKSON! Hopefully those two FG's will be the only ones he misses the rest of the game.
Agree it was a close call. But while Vandy is improved, if the game came down to just THAT play then we would not have deserved to win, IMHO.
To me it was just indicative of the sorry officiating as a whole. Several penalties that were called were the result of players making a strong effort and maintaining blocks or the opposing player just turned the wrong way at the last second. Whitworth got called for holding for maintaining a block downfield but they missed a double team takedown hold of Claude Wroten. If I'm not mistaken, this was the same bunch of clowns that called one of the previous games where there were so many penalties. At least twice a Vandy player was clearly lined up offsides but it wasn't called. And there was no way that the hit on Cutler that was called was intentional.
MTT69 I agree with you except for the hit on Cutler was late and was helmet to helmet. It needed to be called. They did miss a late hit on JR once and could have called a couple on LSU that were toeing the line on being late shoves but luckily they didn't. Wroten was tackled on just about every pass play.
Chris Jackson needs to MAKE those FGs... He has the leg on everything, but he is a HAIR off on accuracy... He got a chance to be a REALLY good kicker with thta leg though! 47 yard field goal, and he hits the TOP of the upright? That is unreal!
Also I saw a lot of people criticizing Miles for playing it safe from our 20yd line vs. UT, and punting (even though it worked pretty well as we got the ball back with chance to win). But I see little talk of how good the call was to punt from the 33 of Vanderbilt, which resulted in pinning them back inside the 3 and ended up getting us 2pts and nearly a TD. Lots of examples of good coaching in the last two games, more than the foolish ones in the first two. We're going to be fine, he will not be as good a game day coach as Saban, that's just a given...Saban is better than virtually any out there, and certainly was better than any when he was coaching here...but he'll be good enough to win a lot of games, I just hope we win some big ones from time to time and don't turn into Oklahoma.
