Probably a chance of that, but TCU doesn't play anybody else this year. If Auburn stays unbeaten, they will pass them if they drop to #3. TCU finishes with San Diego St. and New Mexico. Yesterday one of their kids, understandably, crowed that "today we proved we can play with anybody". Easy to say when you haven't had an SEC team on your schedule.
To Paridiseinc If Auburn loses to Bama, possibly they slip just behind LSU. Possibly. But then if they go on to win the SEC CG handily over, let's say, a revived and confident 9-3 #15 Florida, then Auburn definitely jumps LSU. Actually any win in the SEC CG would put them back ahead of us. So one loss, unless it's the SEC CG and they look bad doing it, will be the only way LSU finishes ahead of Auburn in the BCS. How strange it would be to have an 11-1 LSU ahead of a 12-1 Auburn, in which Auburn beat LSU.
No, Izzy is right. ULM and Ole Miss HAVE to be dominating wins. ULM by at least 40 and Ole Miss by at least 2 TDs. We need style points. Now Arky is definitely a "just win". I don't care if it's 2-0 with us getting a safety on the last play of the game.
Where do quality wins currently factor into BCS formulas? As I understand it, the "quality win" component of BCS calculations were removed after the 2003-2004 season because everyone was upset that LSU made it to the BCS game instead of the media darling USC. Additionally, any win over an unranked team, by definition, is not a quality win. There are no "style points" that factor into any rankings that I can find in a cursory research of the topic.
You may be right, but I can still see where the fact that their loss, if it materializes, is so late that they cannot recover from it and jump back past LSU. Make no mistake about it, if LSU wins out and AUB loses to Bama to end the season, they WILL drop behind us. Whether they then go to the SEC CG, win, and jump past LSU would be the question. It would certainly be unfortunate for AU in that scenario if they did end up 12-1 with a win over us and ended up ranked behind us, but I am with you now and think they would probably jump us if they win the SEC CG. only thing we know for sure is that BCS concept is screwed up. SEC is best and strongest conference in the land. SEC CG in hotlanta is the macdaddy. SEC bridesmaids rock in all other bowls. that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.:geaux: Anybody know when last Tigers beat Tide and Gators in same season?
you seem to be the board BCS man a what if for you Oregon wins out TCU wins out Boise wins out Auburn goes down to Bama but goes to Atlanta and wins LSU wins out What happens ? Auburn goes down to Bama and the Gators beat Auburn in Atlanta Does a one loss Tiger team jump TCU and Boise?? thanks
I think many have some p&g glasses on here... remember VT/LSU in '07? VT was ahead of us before the crazy week at the end. Pollsters pushed LSU above VT b/c of the head to head match up. All bias aside, if there is one spot available for a 1 loss SEC team, and it's LSU/Auburn... Auburn gets it. They beat us on the field. I understand all of the "but we beat bama who beat them/etc..." that's not relevant when there is a head to head match up IMHO. I feel like the pollsters will make it happen. Remember, Auburn was screwed once... many feel we got all the lucky breaks in '03 and again in '07. Which is just another reason pollsters make up whatever points they need to in order to (in their minds) 'correct' the computers.
Auburn will have to beat the Dogs Bama and I think the Gators If the Dogs beat Auburn - oh my what a Bama fan I will become! LSU will of course have to keep getting better JJ seems to have found something and if he finds more of it LSU becomes a power! I don't think we have to worry about JJ going pro at the end of this season.
I agree with you in principle. If AUB is ranked #2 and LSU is ranked #5 in BCS right now this week, we go on to win out (big if, no doubt), and AUB loses to ALA in their last game, I feel strongly, beyond P&G glasses, that they will drop below us in the BCS poll after that game. Now, maybe they go to the SEC CG, win big, and jump us again, who knows? I agree with you about the head to head matchup, but we have all seen teams beat a team, then lose, and end up lower ranked than the team they beat - heck, LSU has been a frustrating victim of that themselves numerous times (I'll try to think of specific examples and post back with that later).
