Rule of thumb, Don't get too stuck on official roster weights. Many questionable listings on the roster like Eric Reid at 200. He was at that weight at the start of his senior year of HS and much bigger now.
Oh I know. Especially heights. I've seen players grow an inch, then lose an inch, then gain it back. Also Josh D. reached 307 per an update yesterday. Today he is 295. Go Figure. There is some truth to that, because they need to get out and pull. But, he is far from fat and IMO he definitely needed to add weight. 315 is nothing for a 6-6 lineman.
That’s not true and it has been pointed out many times that Miles does play a good number of freshmen. Most always it comes down to exp under a system. Sheppard is good, we all know that and he was misused, we know that too, but he didn't know every play either. Various freshmen played last year and I think bit more will play this year. I don't know how much people will put into this, but I read on the ESPN SEC blog that Chavis held back a good bit of his plays and so forth. That he wanted the guys to get his basics down and all that. Obviously we saw that a number of his formations, or rather in certain formations shown by the O, we had problems. We tightened up towards the end of the season and mistakes became less. We also saw that when put in man coverage; we were close to total domination. Some things I think we will see more this year are: · More blitzes · More dominate D line · Better zone coverage · Better against the run It’s not purple and gold glasses, it’s just the fact that Chavis is a good coach and a second year with this system will show through. Same thing for various other parts of the team including the O.
I saw a marked improvement in the defense from '08 to '09, especially the LBs. I doubt we peaked, either with what Chavis can teach them or with personnel. LBs and secondary should be just fine. Nevis and just 1-2 more linemen show up and it's on.
Chavis' system should be fine. I just want him to teach one thing to every defensive player: HOW TO TACKLE PROPERLY This seems to be a problem every year and I just don't understand it. Not just broken tackles but very little gang tackling. I keep waiting for these guys to understand that throwing a shoulder or an arm tackle is not going to bring down the best players in this conference. See McCluster, Dexter, 2009. You have two arms. Use them to wrap your man up.
Tackling is a very good point......There were so many times where the first guy could have ended a drive and so on....
My cousin and I had a discussion about Patrick Peterson. He feels like Peterson is to big and the people in the NFL will move him to safety, because of his weight. He thinks smaller WRs in the league will be able to get behind him, kinda like McCluster at Ole Miss. What yall say?
