You need to re-check your history, I seem to remember that Awbarn did jump OU in the polls for 1 week, then it was perceived that they didn't beat Bama bad enough and was put back to the #3 spot, along with the various mentions of the Citadel and weak schedule.

Hell we should have got Southeastern to play. Better the Blowing on a Milkjug State. Hell just do a purple and gold game that would be alot better.

I'm curious on the "it's about the money" argument. Who's making money by having this game? Is it because we won't have to do the road games on a home and away deal? Don't we have to pay the likes of App. St. to play us? I'm guessing it's a cost-benefit analysis of how much we pay v. how much we make w/ home games.

And I ask this question honestly.

Doesn't anyone remember our Championship year two years ago? Didn't someone have to beat Hawaii on the last afternoon of the season just for us to get our shot?

Every game counts in the weird twisted reality that is the BCS. I know the SOS is supposedly out of the formula, but not the computer rankings. This is all getting ahead of the curve, but I totally agree, we should have done everything in our power to schedule a ULL or ULM. Apparently it IS a huge difference between playing a bottom feeding Div 1 team vs. ANY Div 2 school.

And true, if we get to this game undefeated, this is all a moot point probably. But realistically, we're going to drop one along the way at some point. Having a division 2 school scheduled so late will just fuel the fire of controversary if there are multiple 1 or 2 loss teams (which of course there will be).

    Re: press release ..

We have had almost a year to get this game scheduled, there's really no excuse as to why we went the Div. I-AA route. If we were still using the old BCS SOS, that would kill us. Example, in 2003, most would agree that Western Illinois in reality was actually a better team than ULM. However, ULM didn't hurt us NEARLY as much as Western Illinois did in the rankings.

Even though we don't have that component in the BCS anymore, almost all computers treat Div. I-AA in that manor as well. Colley Matrix is the only one that treats it the way you should treat a game of that manor. (Div. I-AA games don't even get counted in a team's record) Basically with a Div. I-AA opponent, you don't get any credit for their wins (against non-Div I-A schools), but you get penalized for their losses.

And, on a side note, I wish people would quit using the term Div. II to when talking about I-AA, they are NOT the same thing.

I think the article stated that we are paying them $350,000 if I'm not mistaking. I guess we probably save a couple houndred thou playing them. Last year we paid big buck to get OSU in to play us but that isn't a good comparison. I'm not sure how much we pay a team like N. Texas St.

    Re: This Stinks Totally

I DON'T see what's the big deal! Didn't we play I-AA Western Carolina in '01 when we won the SEC?

And even if that point isn't accurate ('cause I really don't remember specifically when we played WCU), DID WE NOT win a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP the SAME SEASON WE PLAYED Western Illinois?!?!?!

:dis: Will no one be satisfied till our 4 non-conference games come against the 4th highest-ranked teams in the country?!?!

    Gee whiz!

So you're saying we shouldn't care who we schedule?

    Re: This Stinks Totally

I loved our schedule this year up until they announced Appl. State today. I would have still been very happy with our schedule if we would have had ULM, Buffalo, Western Michigan or ANY other Div I-A team. It's that we have a I-AA team that upsets me. There's lots of cupcakes we could have scheduled that wouldn't nearly have the sting in public perseption that a I-AA team has.

It's not even about competition level, it's about voter perception. I know we won't be winning national championships every year, but we should at least have the mindset when we put our schedule together that we will be trying for one. And having ANY Div. I-AA opponent kills us.
