I disagree with the notion that we are out of the NC hunt just because we play a 1-AA school. To compare the Auburn/Citadel scenario with ours is way off. The other 2 nonconference teams Auburn played last year were ULM & La. Tech. We've got NT(who will most likely be a bowl team) & Arizona St.(a preseason top 15-20 team). From the early, early polls that are out, we will be a preseason top 10 team(not #20 like Auburn last year). OU & USC were 1-2 all year & no one was going to pass them. If we take care of business & win all of our games(longshot at best), then we will be in a prime position to make an NC run. After playing Arizona St., Tennessee, Florida & Auburn before October 22nd sets up well for this team. The pollsters will have seen LSU go up against 4 top 20 teams in the first 7 weeks of the season. After that, the team can rest up until Nov. 12th when we head out to Bama for the final stretch. JMO.
Re: press release .. I guess the upside of this game is since it's after an open week, and before the Bama game, it would be easy to overlook. Luckily we'll win even if they're looking ahead to the Bama game. Still don't like the bush league opponent this late in the season.
Re: press release .. We only got Appalachian State because we played Arkansas St. this year, which left a hole in our schedule for 05.
Re: press release .. Oh, perennial I-AA power Appalachian St.!!, well then, when you say it like that, bring on the Nat'l Champsionship talk. Everyone's gotta respect us now.
Re: press release .. Still a horrible decision. Radakovich is failing at his most important job. Nothing like trying to make a team sound good so the fans don't complain.
Exactly. Playing The Citadel did not keep us out of the Orange Bowl. USC and Oklahoma starting 1-2 and not losing kept us out. Citing our game against The Citadel was just an easy excuse for the media. It would not have mattered who we played that weekend unless it was USC or Oklahoma themselves, we would have been left out because of where we started. Very unfair, but that is the system we have. I think the SEC as a collective should stop worrying about what we can't control, and every team should focus on wining what they can control on the field, and that is the SEC Championship.
marcnbc, i understand where you're come from, but it seems like the nat'l media will hang on to any chink in the armor to elevate the USC's, Oklahoma's, Ohio St's, Texas's, Cal's, and Michigan's of the world. And to further their apparent anti SEC agenda. Sorry don't mean to sound all X-files-ish, but hwen it boils down to it, they don't like us. App St. just gives these hosebags another brick to throw. Not that I'm saying we'll be in Nat'l Champ talks next year, but who knows. :crystal: :thumb:
Aubie16, the SOS may not have been the only reason, but it sure had something to do with it both in the BCS polls and the minds of voters. And playing teams like this just makes respect hard and harder to come by for the SEC in general. Plus the cost of the tickets and the travel to go see a team like Appalachion St is ridiculous. I won't be at that game.
Re: press release .. Heck McNeese and Northwestern State have been perennial I-AA powers as well, so why the heck aren't we keeping with Skip's plan to keep the money in the state and play one of these schools. While they were considering other I-AA schools what about Southern, Grambling, Nicholls and Southeastern? The other thing is that Appalachian State had to move one of its conference games with Elon College in order to play this game. I have to also believe the Nov. 5 date had to be the reason Radakovich couldn't find a better opponent than this. Well, maybe it'll serve as a tune-up before the difficult final trifecta of conference games.
