This should pretty much guarantee a USC-OU Rose Bowl. Whats the matter Skip........was the Citadel booked already? :angryfire The only way I can think of to protest this kind of BULLSH!T is to have them play in a damn near "EMPTY" Tiger stadium. I know the tickets are paid well in advance but maybe the media induced embarassment to the AD Dept. showing that the fans are unwilling to sit by, while the AD & "almighty dollar" shops for the cheapest prostitute to step into Death Valley. o: It would certainly get the message across to have 92000 people tailgaiting but not entering the stadium. :thumb: This is the end of the rant but not the rage. :cuss:
If this is true, then we've lost our shot at the NC before the season even begins. See Auburn v. Citadel last year...and that was played early enough that 'Bama Tech had time to make up ground in the polls. Playing A-State that late in the season absolutely kills us...even a convincing win does nothing to help us.
Hey don't feel to bad. A while back, USM backed out of their Sept. 24 date with Auburn and we just now replaced them with Western kentucky. Like ya'll, a lot of Auburn fans are ticked off. But the bottomline is it's all about money.
It is about money, but they haven't worked hard enough, as evidenced by the opponent, in securing a better team. If USC can get Fresno St we could get someone much better than a D-1 school as well. The media is going to be all over Auburn and LSU all year and frankly I am tired of it. The bad press this is going to bring in offsets much of the goodwill that we have generated lately. Say what you want about sports writers, but one thing they do have is influnece and you can bet they will make it one of their missions to tell the world about this. Especially the ones that were flamed about their comments on us scheduling W. Illini in 2003 when we didn't have many options. They will simply state that LSU had a lot of time to do this schedule right. rickyd, I agree with you on this, I wish a boycott could be organized and at least have most of the fans walk in at the end of the first qtr or something. Like I said, I've sent my emails, everyone should. There is no better way to let them know of fans displeasure other than boycotting and bringing it up as often as possible.
The only way we could get any positive press on this is, Ryan Perrilloux has to take on Hillbilly St. by himself and win. :hihi:
I agree it's about the money, but it seems like teams are asking other teams to break their contract with someone else for the right to play them, which is having a negative affect on scheduling. This is why we are in this position of playing a 1-AA this year. LSU, and some other big schools, are not willing to schedule a home and home series, unless it is in a 12 game regular season. Everyone wants to play 7 home games, which means we are stuck playing these crappy home games. Maybe going to a 12 game regular season will help. Then again, some ADs will probably say they need 8 homes games to make more money! It sure is frustrating to pay this much money to watch crummy games...
Remember how many times Auburn and the Citadel were mentioned in the same breath last years when detractors would discredit the War Chicken's run at the title? If LSU has a successful season, be prepared to hear App. St. A-lot! I thought we've learned from the past, guess not.
One has to respect, say, Texas playing Ohio State early on in 2005. From a ratings standpoint, it's a winner takes all. Who ever wins will fall in right behind God's "Dynasty" team, the invincible, worldly and unbeatable Trojans. God will never let the winner jump to # 1, even though it is the second game of the season. God and Pete Carroll are quite tight these days. Is it worth the risk? Or are either of these teams better off playing Central Southern Idaho and running the risk of being "like Auburn"? I'd rather go down in the flame of my own fighter jet than by the flames of media or BCS... any day!!
