I am not ready to name any sacrificial lambs or guilty parties to the fight. What I am ready to say is that there is a leadership problem on this team. I think Miles will get it worked out. I am disappointed in JJ's leadership Thursday night. If he did "roll out" to the bar in his slippers to hang out for a bit because the rest of his team was out after curfew, he could have made better leadership decisions. But in truth he has never exhibited good leadership skills on the football field in my eyes. I had hoped that had changed and he had grown up. T-Bob has made some poor decisions since being on this team. Where is the teammate strong enough to round these guys up and say get your ass back to your rooms. We are not suppose to be out here? Where is the leader that Miles can depend on to do the right thing when no one is looking?
That's the point, it should be Jefferson and it obviously isn't. Now the entire nation is watching and already probably thinks LSU is a dirty program anyway because of the negative pub, Miles has to make a statement, and I think serving up the guy who should have had more respect for Coach is the way to go.
I see your point. I just think you are 24-48 hours early. Miles knows what happened by now. The police will know tomorrow. Miles needs to wait for the police to make their move then he will make his. I am assuming there will be two punishments. One for those that snuck out (seems like just about everybody will get in good shape) and one for those dumb enough to get drawn into an altercation (suspension of some sort). I would like to see Miles act in the best interest of the Team and the individual player, not for what ESPN might think. I know sometimes you have to protect the program from outside perceptions but LSU and Miles have run a pretty clean program. He (they) should get the benefit of the doubt.
My dad played 4 years of college football, and he said guys broke curfew all the time; it's just something that is done. He also coached for 40 years, and team rules (which is what a curfew falls under) are broken, and then dealt with, in house. That's not to say that coaches don't get ticked when their team rules are broken. As for the 4 people IN the hospital, that isn't accurate, is it? 4 people went to the hospital. But were they even admitted? Anyone can walk into an ER.
In my opinion I would hate to see Landry kicked off the team. It seems from what I've heard that Davenport doesn't really care about football and doesn't seem like he would be someone that would be missed. Johns is Special teams player and they are a dime a dozen. My feelings on Jefferson are the same as most everybody else here that he is not hard to replace.
This thread is really distressing, coming from a supposedly "loyal" fanbase. Some are ready to be judge, jury and executioner...even before all the facts are known. If someone was seriously hurt, then punishment should be commensurate. But we don't know squat about the what really occurred. Maybe we should hold judgment until the facts are out. Like it or not, maybe this event doesn't show a lack of leadership...just intelligent leadership. Peer pressure is a mighty force. After a couple weeks of physically demanding practices, some just have to have an outlet. Personally, I think what they did, by not sticking to curfew, was inordinately stupid. Not, in itself, criminal. I don't think anyone who participated was looking for a fight. But, add a few beers to the situation and, perhaps, an onslought of insults or challenges, and mayhem results. We all know that Coach Miles' response will be measured...more so, than some of the hysterical responses in this thread. He will do the right thing, at the appropriate time. For a championship calibre team, it is disappointing. We don't want to be classified with the likes of some of the Oklahoma and Miami teams of the past. Let's just settle down and let matters take their course. We are still LSU supporters. :tigerhead
