I have to admit I was stunned an Alabama fan said that also. Most of the time the Alabama fans seemed trapped in the past where Houndstooth caps were the rage (OK sorry, they were always out of style, but I thought I would try to throw them a bone). Also, time and time again, you see them quote the series record...what they DON'T post is the record over the last 30 years...LSU 15 wins Alabama 15 wins 1 Tie (1 extra game due to playing twice last season of course). Anyway, if anyone has a bunch of plaid stuff, bell bottoms, lava lamps, or a Gremlin automobile, please donate to Tuscaloosa Alabama.
Sorry, you went over your stated points and so is now qualified as a "verbose post". Also, it gets demerits for actually quoting facts like the Top 25 polls. Seriously though, great post. Like I said, I haven't followed Smith's career even when HC at Mich State that much. I know he was basically .500 there (22-26 to be exact, thanks to Wikipedia) and that he was after another coach Bobby Williams with similar record (15-17) . They later hired the guy who is there now (Dantonio) and he has been outstanding. I agree with your Petrino offensive game comments and maybe squeezing out an extra win or so each year but still have my doubts that Smith could ignore the defense more than Petrino. Bobby boy has never in his entire HC coaching career(that I'm aware of) had even a mediocre defense...not at Louisville, not with his less than 1 year stint with the Falcons, and certainly not with Arkansas).
Just sayin'... One thing I've found amusing over the years is what some fans will hang their hats on. (trying to keep with the theme here..) There's a lot of faith, misplaced, in Paul Petrino right now. I've seen it mentioned on several occasions that the offensive prowess shouldn't miss a beat since he's been in the system for so long. If you haven't followed him, he stepped out from under the Bobby umbrella and took over the OC job at Illinois. After averaging a whopping total of 11 points per game in their last six they "let him go." (His offense did manage to put up 40 something against a one win Indiana team, so possibly I'm not giving him enough credit.) Now, that Illinois team did rebound a bit scoring 20 against a hapless six win UCLA team in a bowl game. The 'Backs are expecting improvement on defense this year, as they did last year, and the year before, and... You get the picture. What kills me is the two coaches they brought in came from Ohio State. OK, OSU did manage a bowl win over the 'Backs. But, they still failed to stop Petrino's offense. More importantly, over their careers at OSU how much success have they had stopping SEC offenses? If you start putting the pieces together and then step back and look at the entire picture—even in its incomplete state—it's not the same picture you see pundits painting. More often than not I find myself thinking I'm being gracious by stating they'll only lose four.
No misconception here. Lot's of history to reflect on. Given the 2 NC out of the last 3 year run and counting, it would seem we are firmly secure in the present.
2 out of 3 is NOT a pattern or even a run...it is a coincidence. MORE of a run is that a team FROM Alabama has won the last 3 NC. As they say, a team or coach is only as good as the last win. Alabama won't come close to being in the NC game this season. They won't win the SEC West AGAIN!!! And this time, no rematch. I have said Alabama was the BEST team last year. I have also said they were incredibly LUCKY to get into the NC game. IF OSU beats a mediocre Iowa State team, Alabama is NOT remotely close to even making it to New Orleans for the NC game.
A guy from Arkansas lives 3 houses down from me. To his credit, he thought they would a great season last year and they did. I should have looked at the schedule because I thought they would lose more than 2 games. But of course they played cupcake city outside of LSU and Alabama...no Florida...no Georgia....beat A&M by 4 points only. Probably their most impressive win was one against S Carolina (really only the 3rd good team they played) but they also only beat Troy by 10. And his answer when I said "aren't you worried about having no defense?" He said "No, Petrino will just outscore them...well that did indeed work except not remotely so against Alabama and LSU who each blew them out." I still think they lose less than 4 UNLESS the team falls apart which BTW I do think is possible. BTW, a note of sadness...how is Bobby "Motorcycle" Petrino ever going to get revenge on Les "the Hat" Miles? Remember the finger pointing at the end of the game and the rude behavior of Bobby at midfield when the coaches met? Poor Bobby isn't going to have his chance for revenge.
Dude, to argue football with you is only insulting to the many Tiger fans over here that care enough to know the game.
Typical arrogant, delusional Bama boy. Guy, keep believing that Bear Bryant is alive and little Nicky is a football God. You guys are total jokes and every LSU fan knows it. All your bama boys do is to bring up the overall Alabama record and NEVER talk about dead even the last 30 years. Sorry I did the homework for you and proves how hallucinagenic you guys are. Enjoy your Gremlin, your plaid clothing, lava lamps, and the bell bottoms...you know the things that were around when you REALLY DID dominate LSU in football. Guess it is a tough adjustment for you to make now, huh?
Ya think? He was rated #1 rantard by many on TD. You're only saying that cause you know he can't see it. Dewd, look at your post below- that you just said. Then you tell that to a fan of the team who bitch slapped us, spanked our asses, then raped us in our LAST GAME???
