    My dad is from West Texas and I love the panhandle. Just a bit too far from the beach. Not a far drive to Santa Fe however.

    No, I have not been to the panhandle. So far the armpit of the state from my perspective and experience is El Paso.

    I tend to agree. There is some good BBQ to be found in the panhandle, at least.
