The LSU Athletic Department has let it be known that the Tigers will never play a night game on a Thursday.
When I first saw that article on TigerBait I got pissed too. However, they are not talking about LSU playing at home on Thursday night. The article clearly states that LSU will never play at home on Thursday night. The only tailgating this would affect is MSU and LSU fans that want to make the trip. I've been to Starkville and it's not worth it anyway. Just as it was mentioned earlier, if it gets us out of App St I think it's worth it. As long as we never play a big game or a home game on Thursday I don't think it's that big of a deal.
Can ESPN or the SEC help us find a better opponent than Appalachian St? WHY do we have Appalachian St scheduled more than a year in advance? WTF.... I don't like the SEC trying to f around with schedules so two "big" games don't transpire on the same weekend. I guess I wouldn't mind the Moo U game being on Thursday because of the national exposure (I hated not being able to watch the Kentucky game).
It's the way of the world guys! Everything is about money. The daytime games, Thursday night games, the current BCS system, the 12th game -EVERYTHING is about TV money. As long as we are in the national spotlight (winning) - we will be scheduled where the TV networks can make the most hay! If you think we fans have a say in the matter - you need to rethink your position. If you quit buying tickets, they will be sold to others. Every LSU fan not at the game will be watching Thursday night or Saturday afternoon, or 2 am Tuesday morning, if that's when the game is played. Those Saturday night affairs in Death Valley against TOP competition are a thing of the past. Get used to it. No one hates it more than me.
Actually it's about national exposure for LSU and the SEC not money. If the SEC and LSU didn't care about exposure then LSU would tell CBS to shove it when they want us for a 2:30 game. I don't think LSU cares about ESPN's bottom line. Do you think LSU would take TV exposure if it means they will only have 70,000 fans in attendance. I know it won't happen but I was just wondering if the financial loss on gameday in ticket sales and consessions would make them think about the decision?
The only way there will be a "financial loss" due to lack of attendance on gameday is because of LSU losses, not time of day the games are played. The SEC is all about money. All TV/Bowl monies are shared by the teams in the conference. The SEC wants ALL their teams on TV every week. But there is only so much Saturday night airtime. I remember when I was a student in the 60s our Saturday night home games with Alabama would be changed to the afternoon to accomodate TV as no college games were shown in TV primetime. (We would invaribly lose - probably had to get up to early!!!) I am sure it will not be long before games are on Tuesday and Wednesday. Some will embrace that change - I will not. Good chatting with you.
