That's ok. While it would be nice to have polls (in every sport) that actually voted for teams based on performance, these silly polls in basketball will have no impact on the NC.

BTW, Louisville is ranked 81st in the RPI...

    Is the bench getting better?

So, this thread should be revisisted, b/c we're another 4 games down in the SEC, and we've gone 3-1 in the last four games to arrive at a surprising 7-1 record. As we enter arguably the toughest 4 game stretch and very monumental "3rd quarter" of SEC play, we have: Arkansas, at Florida, and Mississippi St. and at Auburn.

My observations remain true generally, but it's interesting to see that D.Mitch HAS stepped up, as have Tasmin and Temple. But teams are starting to really focus in on frustrating BBaby, D.Mitch and Tyrus. So, the supporting cast becomes that much more important. Tasmin needs to assert himself, AND, perhaps Darnell Lazare can as well.

The Advocate chose to write an article about my point above, which is starting to also concern me more. When Brady really only goes 7 or 8 deep, we start to risk injury to key guys, which can make or break a season. Ben Voogd needs to be insert in the game (mistakes and all), despite Brady's reluctance to do so, as I'm most afraid of D.Mitch wearing down or getting hurt. Depth of course is something that Brady has struggled to create while at LSU. Next year MAY be the first year we legitimately have 10 guys who can play (I know we seem to be seeing that alot :hihi:, but let's hope that we only have the NBA to worry about...).

Let's just take the games one game at a time. Beat the Hogs and hope for the best against the Gators. The Tigers still have a surprise or two left this season.

Re: Is the bench getting better?

i dont think averaging 35+ minutes affects dmitch. GD is who is affected with heavy minutes. i think lazare needs to play much more to spell GD (for stamina) and TT (to keep his head).

of course, if dmitch gets hurt or in foul trouble then voogd becomes important--although in that case i would like cjb to try TM at 2.

ok here are some more stats--from ken pomeroy

    http://www.kenpom.com/sr.php?team=Louisiana%20St.

Team stats through games of Wednesday, February 8

    Raw Tempo: 71.4 poss/40 min National Rank= 56
    Adj Tempo: 70.4 poss/40 min National Rank= 83

    Offense Defense
    Raw Efficiency : 107.5 ( 49) 91.3 ( 24)
    Adj Efficiency : 112.9 ( 22) 88.6 ( 16)

    Effective FG% : 52.8 ( 52) 45.4 ( 27)
    Turnover Pct. : 22.1 (207) 20.8 (204)
    Off. Rebound% : 39.7 ( 15) 26.8 ( 14)
    Free Throw Rate: 22.7 (239) 23.5 ( 5)

    3-Point FG% : 35.8 (115) 34.7 (161)
    2-Point FG% : 52.6 ( 37) 42.4 ( 18)
    Free Throw Pct.: 68.7 (186) 72.8 (306)
    Block Pct. : 10.4 (262) 14.7 ( 19)

    3FGA/FGA : 20.6 (334) 30.7 ( 91)
    A/FGM : 56.8 (156) 46.2 ( 7)

    couple things stand out.
teams shoot high FT% against LSU (just bad luck, i guess).
teams get very little assists against LSU. dont know exactly what this means, but either LSU plays crappy, streetball teams or LSU hustles so much that passing doesnt work. the receiver is denied or the ball is stolen or the shot is blocked/missed.

this is a really good article about how all the players from baton rouge knew each other and played together and against each other as kids:

    http://www.lsureveille.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2006/02/10/43ec398353c91d

"“Garrett and Tyrus started playing together when they were about 4 or 5 years old,” Collis said. “Glen Davis started playing in our house league when he was about 9. [They] actually grew up together in that league.”

    read it.
