Re: LSU Lady Tigers vs MSU tonight at 9 PM CST

LSU looks to be a 6-seed before tonight. They may have 9 losses, but their RPI is 23. A win tomorrow would put them above 20. (Tennessee is #10, Vandy is #36, State is #38)

The selection committee really takes way too much consideration with RPI rankings. LSU gets no lower than a 6 seed right now, and two more wins gets them MAYBE to a 4. A 4 is a big stretch though.

On the game: I didn't get back from the baseball game until the second half, and I got to see LSU go on that big run, and then lose the lead.

You can clearly tell this team is young when they are facing a press. They started to get nervous and make very poor passes. Luckily they have Hightower to make big shots and control the ball. They keep getting better.

What a 2nd half by Hightower. She was doing her best impression of Kobe Bryant. She could not be stopped.

LSU with a 6th seed is fine by me. I think LSU can beat any of the 2 seeds in the tourney. I don't think we have a shot at any of the 1 seeds however (disparity is large in Women's hoops for whatever reason).

Playing 6 vs 3, then playing the 2 seed, is better than a 4 or 5 seed having to play the 1 in the Sweet 16 matchups. We could get to the Elite 8 using that logic. If so, Van Chancellor has done the best job this season as Women's basketball coach.

I think if LSU can get to the final, we just might get a 6 seed. I just wonder if we need to win the tourney to get that high, however, like Clair alluded to.

In all fairness, they were without their starting PG for the last 25 minutes of the game and were facing the SEC's 2nd best defensive team (behind LSU), so there was some credit to MSU for how ugly it all was at times.

Lady Tigers vs. Vanderbilt tips off around 8, FSN South on satellite and Fox Sports Central / some FSN Southwest stations on cable.

If you have no other way to follow it, the SEC will have free streaming audio:

A semiquote from Auburn - Tennessee halftime. Vandy has 5 guards and will be all over the court on defense, and LSU will guard you from the time you get off the bus :D

A shout out to Latear, she's back, started the game, and is playing well!

OTO at 15:33, LSU up 6-5
OTO at 10:19, LSU up 12-7
OTO at 7:51, LSU up 18-13
OTO at 3:48, LSU up 22-17

A flurry of offense between OTO 2 and 3...

LSU up 26-23 at the half. Vandy looks to be pretty sound with fundamentals, it's going to be a tough second half...

LSU sure is weak against the press. The word is out now.

Yeah, LSU needs to take advantage of the lack of the 10 second rule if they need to.

10:09, LSU down by 2, 36-38. Vandy at the line after the OTO
7:54, tied at 40. LSU looks to be playing with a little more sense of urgency...

Vandy gets a 3. Graham saves the ball, but LSU later turns it over. Vandy gets 2, Hightower answers with 2.
Vandy gets 2 again, LSU turns it over. Vandy gets 2 and gets fouled.
Vandy up by 8 at 4:52.

Barrett misses, Vandy gets fouled and makes 1.
Hughes misses badly, Barrett gets a block.
Vandy rebounds in traffic and puts it back for 2.
    Kelly banks in a 3
LSU holds on D and gets fouled
    2:55, LSU down by 8, 45-53

Barrett's shot is short, Vandy scores.
LSU almost turns it over, but Vandy fouls. Barrett makes both, LSU down by 8 w/ 2:11 to go

    Vandy 1/2 from the line
Morris misses, Vandy milks the clock and scores late in the possession.
Morris gets the charge, Vandy's ball. LSU not fouling...

    Vandy wins 61-47

OK, pbp does not seem to be good karma for me :/ I'll test that theory next game...
