Enough! This thread went to crap the moment someone said anyone from Evangel is a must have.

I'm not sure Ramah is advocating writing off recruits such as Sanders. His point (at least the way I read it) is that LSU cannot hang around kissing the ass of every fence straddling blue chipper when there are other blue chippers ready to join the team. Sure, Coach Saban reserves a few schollys for the perceived "cream of the crop" recruits, e.g Doucet, Russell (last year) and others but there are also the Robert Lanes of the world who talk the talk but don't have the balls to walk the walk when crunch time comes around. Sure, LSU coaches will welcome Sanders with open arms, but it's a two way street. Don't try to play both sides against the middle or you might get run over.

Maybe we are reading his comments differently, but the way I read it is that Ramah would rather take the guys who want to commit now and who have "all the heart and gut in the world," over the Luke Sanders and Marlon Favorites who are playing the field before committing. All I was saying is that "heart and guts" are great, but they only go so far. To beat the Oklahoma's and the Trojans of college football, we have to keep doing what we are doing and that is go after the best and most talented players out there. Ramah doesn't deny the need for talent, but I think he would rather field a team of "go getters." That may have worked in the 1930's with Notre Dame, but this is a different game...Ramah, care to clarify the exact meaning of your stance????

I was getting ready to respond to your last post. I think the point Ramah was making was that we won't hang around waiting for a Sanders to make up his mind if we have another recruit at the same position with just as much ability/potential who is willing to commit now.

I closed it because it appeared to be heading in the wrong direction and getting personal.

Since there is an interest in it I've reopened it.

Well if that is what he is saying, I am more inclined not to argue against that. But it sounded like in another thread that he was saying that we didn't need the likes of Sanders and Favorite. And since he never responded to me, I just assumed he was saying that LSU was above the recruits.

    He said in another thread:

Now, maybe I am completely missing Ramah's point, or he is just way off on recruiting....These guys aren't thugs and if they are a problem, Saban wouldn't allow it. My point is, the times of the 1930's where heart and determination could outplay talent are pretty much gone. Now, you have to amass your team full of as much talent as you can get and then mold them and utilize them into a champion. We just can't beat the Oklahoma's without as much speed, strength, and talent....Like I said earlier, we are venturing into unchartred territory with our quest for the NC...I have no doubt Stoltz will be a great Linebacker...but he is going to need Luke Sanders lining up next to him or waiting in the wingss...A little( a lot) of depth never hurt anyone...
