After watching national powerhouse Duke struggle to put away a team that they should have, I'm NOT gonna nit-pick over our 22-point win vs a team that beat us last year. I don't care that NSU had a "small lineup" and used it to their advantage by putting 3-pt shooters out there....they still lost by 22. Who cares if "our bigs couldn't get out to defend"??? They couldn't stop in inside game. I've been critical of the men's team since Johnson took over. After what he had done at Stanford, I thought for SURE we'd have better sustained success. But I guess I underestimated the condition of the program when he was brought in. I dunno. Anyhow, whether or not they pan out is another topic, but this team does seem to have a good base of young talent as well as a big man (Hamilton) with experience. Now, I'm not expecting to set the world on fire in the SEC nor do I expect an NCAA birth this year. But it WOULD be reason for optimisim and praise should we be competitive in conference play this season and possibly worth at least a mention as a possible NIT team. Don't know about the rest of you, but if won 17-20 games this season and post-season bid (again, even if it's the NIT), with the youth we have, then I'd say we are moving in a positive direction. Today was a good step
They picked up business in the 2nd half and started finding their shots. Inside game is going to need some work finishing plays at the rim, but not a bad way to start at all. Hickey has made an immediate impact, and that's great to see. Turner and Isaac put down some timely shots, too, and O'Bryant did well in stretches off the bench.
I'm happy with this start to the season. The newcomers have made an impact, we are putting the ball in the basket, and we have depth. We had 7 players in double digits and no player had more than 14 pts.:geauxtige
I was able to listen to half of the game. Spent the morning with my boys in the gym today. My youngest at basketball camp and my oldest had a scrimmage at Belaire. Sounded pretty tough on the radio, especially in the second half.
JOB and Hickey look like players, and Isaac also had a nice debut. Hamilton held his own nicely and should give us a legit big man. Love the depth we have. If Hickey/Stringer can shoot the ball a little and limit the turnovers this team will be solid.
I agree with your post here, I am very happy the Tigers Won yesterday and have depth, something they haven't had in many years. I haven't been too critical of Coach Johnson though, he did win the SEC West his first year. He also had to come in, take over, get accustomed to SEC play and rebuild the program. I am very optimistic about the future of LSU basketball.
Who's claiming here that they are world-beaters? They've shown improvement. You don't even care about basketball so just stay out of the basketball threads.
