They were triple-overtime losses to SEC teams with top-15 scoring offenses that went to bowl games. They were average at worst. Few National Champions have been "dominant". I really don't remember any in the BCS era.
you are not arguing the point. The point is LSU vs. all the other BCS National Champions. Not LSU vs. all the other teams who were in the running for the 2008 Title Game. I know LSU deserved to be there. I just think a 13-0 or 14-0 season is more impressive than a 12-2 season with losses to two 4-5 loss teams.
I hear this one quite a bit, mostly from rival fans. Granted, it was outside the norm for CFB, but so is Michigan losing to Appy St, Michigan and Notre Dame facing each other while being winless, and USC losing to Stanford at home with a backup qb. Kind of fit the crazy year IMO. The flip side of those unimpressive losses, is that LSU beat 5 teams that finished in the AP top 15. Never been done before. How easily they all forget. So while some people regard going undefeated and facing maybe 1-3 AP TOP 10 teams as the standard, I choose to consider our team as equal or greater on the basis of who they beat, and not just on who beat them. It matters little. I don't consider ESPN biased vs LSU anyway, though admittedly, it was strange to see highlights of championship teams in other sports but not CFB.
ESPN has continued to grow in insignificance for a while now. Used to be that I'd watch SC every night, now I might watch it once a month. The only thing they've got going for them is Gameday. They're just not the power that they used to be cuz they got away from what got them there. The glory days for ESPN were when Patrick and Olbermann where anchoring SC and before Berman's personality became exaggerated beyond belief. Van Pelt, Rece Davis and Mortenson are the better ones around right now but the rest of the guys are just filler. so, as far as bein shafted on the ESPY's, I'll start caring when ESPN starts handing out BCS trophies.
Great point - It took me a long time to realize this. You will drive yourself crazy watching and analyzing and worrying, and - for some of us - obsessing over what these sports channels and sportscasters think or say. Think about it: we won the friggin National Championship last season. Isn't that good enough? If it's not, and you need more, you're gonna be one sad fan for the rest of your life. I know we were the best team in college football last year, I don't need anyone to tell me we were. I've seen the crystal ball. ps - This isn't directed at Cajun, just towards the general idea that this nonsense actualy matters
